The FOC thread.

My mother used to give my hair a good going over with a Durbac comb, over an old copy of the Manchester Evening News, the night before the knit nurse visited our school. Hurt like fuck. She must have known what it was only good for then.

This was the forerunner to the new improved, improved and improved again soap powders :)

Bloody hell, I could have sworn my mum used to put it on bee/wasp stings when we were kids and we'd go round with blue patches on our skin until it wore off.

Just googled it;

How it was used for stings:
  • A small amount of the blue powder was mixed with water to create a paste or a solution.

  • This paste or solution was then applied directly to the sting, often a bee or wasp sting.

  • The alkaline nature of the blue (due to the baking soda) was thought to help neutralize the venom and reduce inflammation.

Hmmm.
Granada TV rentals started in 1968 when they renamed Red Arrow tv rentals, part of the Granada group, It then changed its name to Granada TV Rentals.
Perhaps I may have misremembered with Granada Rentals. No need for the Hmm's and the snide inuendo.
I checked with my brother and he too thought the same, so a genuine error (he did recall the TV was made by Ultra).
Wikipedia "The company (Granada) also established a chain of television rental shops from 1959 onwards, expanding in 1968 by purchasing Robinson Rentals for £8 million from David Robinson.<a
I also remember attending a street party in 1953 for the queen's coronation. You can Google that if you wish.

Correcting factual errors is snide innuendo?
I don’t need to Google your irrelevant addition as you have clearly cut and pasted it.
You also clearly need reminding that 1959 was three years after the 1956 cup final you claim to have watched on a Granada tv!
Pathetic, old man.

In 1953 all us school kids got a Mug to commemorate the coronation. I broke mine by attaching a rubber band to the handle and using it as a yo-yo.
