Buying 2 ounces of lemon sherbets. If you were lucky enough, buying a quarter (2oz each of lemons and strawberry flavour).

I used to suck the things until a pin-prick hole would form at one end and the sherbet would suddenly race out, really sharp.

The roof of my mouth would be sore for two days afterwards. Completely worth it, of course :-)

Someone has taken nearly all of the chocolate out of chocolate limes now, they should just be called limes.

I remember being sent into Woolies once for some elastic bands - I think my instructions were something like 'now hurry up - they're between the garden spades and the bonbons...'

The Opal Toffees picture isn't how I remember the wrapper. It was brown on white, in similar fashion to the Opal Mints wrapper being green on white, but I can't find a photo of it anywhere.

I don't think either were around for very long, and the toffees were definately short lived, but both flavours were, as I recall, very pleasant.

Remember these ? Collecting cards that came in a packet with a rectangular piece of chewing gum that smelt beautiful.

Look at the art work on this. Not AI generated, someone actually had to draw that. And the subjects of the cards were not only historical but captured the subject matter in all it's gory detail, no age restrictions, and didn't require "readers should be aware that the contents of these cards may be disturbing...." etc.

They came with reproduction dollar bills in various denominations which we also collected.

My brother will be 70 this year, and has the complete set of cards including the dollar notes.

They also did "Mars Attacks" cards and "Man form UNCLE" and others I can't remember.

I remember vividly the card that showed a confederate soldier impaled by multiple spikes on a contraption of spikes between two wheels.

What ever happened to Kwik Save, used to be 1 on civic in wythenshawe, and 1 in Northenden, think there were several others as well
