The FOC thread.

I always have a chuckle at the complaint that it’s heat or eat. In the 50s, we never had heating. Most families had one fire in the front room which was never lit before tea time. We all remember frost on the inside of bedrooms.
I was 20 years of age the first time I went into a house with central heating.
I still experienced ice (on the inside) on my bedroom window in 1983. I’d left a comfortable home to live in a flat above a hairdressers with my girlfriend at the time… one of my biggest mistakes was to marry her :-(

Pint of mild and a cherry B for the bird.
Then on to the Kingsway for prawn cocktail, steak and chips followed by Black Forest gateau and maybe a cheeky glass of Mateus Rose.

La Dolce Vita.

They were the days…!

Bought my first house in 1988 - no central heating - just one of those standard Gas Fires everyone had in the living room and a pair of crappy gas fired heaters in the two main bedrooms - even had a paraffin heater at the bottom of the stairs which would warm up the staircase to the landing - I would literally turn all the rings on on the gas cooker and leave the door open between the kitchen and the living room to warm downstairs up!
