The gamble has backfired

Lyon deserved to go through over 2 legs as they were the better seem, seems strange some people would rather Madrid go through as they've got more chance against United despite Lyon just outplaying them during the two games

Lyon are a dangerous side and will give anyone left in the competition a game, not many teams will go to Lyon and come away with anything and they're more than capable of getting an away goal

I'm well chuffed, put a couple of quid on Lyon at 45-1 to win the tournament a few weeks ago.

Madrid's arrogance is nearly as bad as the rags.

Anyone see Higuian's miss? I literally laughed my feckin arse off. :)

PMSL. Only Barce and Cheslea have a chance. Blue tinted specs. United look the strongest in the comp quite comfertably and unfortunately have the best player in the world (again) in Rooney :(

Least he is English mind.

I meant they are the only ones with a chance of beating United..

youjust know that utd will get the easier of the draws in the semi final

they will get lyon and chelski will get barca

On tonights performance Lyon can't score for shit they should have won at least 4-1.

id say you want the strongest available teams in the competition, just so the scum dont win again. i dont think i can take another 2008.
If we get 4th I won't give a shit, the better we are becoming the less I'm bothered by them, are time is coming and for once in 30 odd years I actually see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, gone from a 12 to 14 methinks.

Real Madrid..it's one of those clubs that imo have no history no heartbeat, which sounds ridiculous because they're obvsiouly succesfull. But Real Madrid has turned into the club where stars go, and don't function as a time, but individuals. It's very much comercial and celebrity status and everything that comes with that side of the game. But the stars of the football world go to Madrid. Not the greats, the stars. It's why the likes of Beckham left and while say Keane/Scholes, who contributed more than Beckham did to United's success, would have never went to Madrid.
Beckham swapped all that he had at Man U, all that he had and could have achieved at a club that had history and honours and success and swapped it for a team that collected the best players around the world, but had the celebrity lifestyle and the bigger cheque books, even if it meant sitting on the bench.

Argueably all teams try to bring the best team together but Real do it on an extraordinary level.

Obviously there are those who dreamed of playing for them as kids and those who the clubs represent, but from the outside it's very much a cold club that is so far away from connecting with the public, with the supporters, it's a team of stars. And a team of All Stars doesn't always make the best team.

Ronaldo had everything at United, so to speak, his celebrity out shone his talent, and he swapped what United gave him, for a team that while on paper are incredible but it's not the same, not by a long shot, and I'd say when he left, he probably thought, along with the rest of us, that Man U would crash and burn without him, and they haven't. And he's not as important as he probably thought.
They wont miss a player like him, but if Scholes retired in the morning, he'd be missed a hell of a lot more. A celeb player, while the likes of Scholes is a true pro.

They can be the best players on paper, and individually more talented than the other team, but no amount of money or individual talent will make them want to die and give everything they have, shed the best of themselves for eachother and their club. And you can't buy that.

I mean we've had it rough and we've been fuckin miserable at times. But like..those are the days, those are the memories and I'd not trade a moment of the fans in true voice at home for one in a pin drop in Real Madrid or Chelsea for that matter. Or any other sell out club.

Madrid are now more of a business than a football club.

I mean, they have failed to get past the knock-out stages for 6 years in a row and are always in the top 2 of the profit league table. Ronaldo and Kaka have pretty much paid for themselves due to shirt sales and commercial deals.

I blame the type of players they have bought and the sacking of all those managers that were more than capable of giving them success. You would have thought they would have learnt their lesson by now, but no, Pellegrini will be sacked and this will all happen next year too.

Today's game indicate that there is no chemistry between the players. Case in point, at one point Ronaldo berating Higuain for not passing the ball to him when the latter was also in a good position & had every right to shoot.

Same goes for CR9 with the other players.

Bottom line its not history. Its chemistry.

-- Thu Mar 11, 2010 2:19 am --

Perhaps RM was looking too much forward to the supposedly dream final between Barca & RM.

Haha!

Huge shame, this competition needs the best clubs in the world competing for it, and now Bayern, Lyon, Sevilla/CSKA and Bordeaux/Olympiakos will all be in the quarters, it's just not good enough.
