The game is off

On the plus side, we get extra rest before the Chelsea game, we'll have Dinho, Aguero and Nasri back for the rearranged fixture vs Sunderland, and, to top it all off, Wes Brown will now miss the cup final. I was pissed that the game was called off, but in hindsight, it's worked out well for us.

Brown doesn't miss the cup final at all. 2 game ban means he misses FA Cup and next league game

Only on blue moon could there be a 48 page thread about the wind and it causing the abandonment of the game.
The game was called off because members of the publics safety could not be guaranteed around the stadium and getting to and from the game. Good call I say.So they don't call it off and someone gets seriously injured due to flying debris etc. Then what?
Personally it was a blessing in disguise as the players got a full week off pre Chelsea despite the fact it took me nigh on 2 hrs to get home.
Roll on Saturday.
Oh what is the forecast by the way?? :-)

No doubt calling the game off was the correct decision but the decision should have been taken earlier: it looks like the dots were not joined up quickly enough within the decision making process.

I happen to think that the game should have been postponed the moment a red weather warning was issued. I didn't know there was a red warning until I got up to Cheshire. The authorities knew that hurricane force winds were due and should have been doing way more. We are hopeless at dealing with bad weather in this country. People should have been sent home from work early across the area due to be hit; the motorway warnings should not have been "strong winds, slow down": they should have been "hurricane due: turn the fuck round".

Heaven knows what sort of risk assessment the authorities carried out but they got it wrong.

Is there any mileage in an automatic postponement if a red weather warning is in place in the area the match is to take place? An advisory from the met office of 'do not travel unless absolutely necessary', should stop supporters risking their lives by attending a football match, but it obviously doesn't looking at this thread.

Edit: my apologies, seems OB1 beat me to it ;).

But as i've stressed many times now, the time of which they did it was stupid and wrong.

-- Thu Feb 13, 2014 3:58 pm --

Apparantley not........Weather forecasters downgraded the wind speed in the afternoon.....however it appeared between 5.00 and 8.00pm and was ferocious. Club discussed with police and agreed that safety around the ground was an issue (we've had this before in the snow and ice where the stadium was fine but roads and approach wasn't). Final point was when the programme booth got picked up the wind and blown across the concourse.

game called off was the right decision (and a good one for us)

That was fucking shite last night . I travelled on the train from Bradford yesterday to see no game . The Police and Club should have postponed it earlier . Can Manchester City football club please pay for my train ticket yesterday .

Why didn't the club call the game off earlier yesterday . They knew we were going to have gale force winds at tea time . I was in 2 minds to set off to the match yesterday . I was very lucky I got a train back to Bradford . Thanks for giving me a shit day yesterday Manchester City Football Club .

Nowhere near as bad mate..........Michael Fish.
MODS - maybe an idea to modify thread title to make clear it refers to the Sunderland game?
