So the Guardian's take on it is not to challenge any of the facts, but instead to suggest that "everybody does this kind of thing". Well I'm sure that in Guardian Land, everybody does do this kind of thing.

I was going to post the same Telegraph article. Here's the damning evidence in one concise sentence from the article:

Miliband on Andrew Marr right now. Marr trying his hardest to nail him down on figures, but Miliband is holding his own. Fair play to him, he's said they will reinstate the 50% tax rate, they need to cut spending, they are bringing in the Mansion Tax, and also said supported the cap on welfare spending - he wouldn't be drawn on the £26k figure though. Big talk on the NHS, but nothing really specific - more GPs, but that's easy to say.

They talked about the Conservatives and the strike law, and he said he didn't support that, which is hardly surprising given how he was voted Leader.

Marr raised the question about a deal with the SNP, and he just said he didn't have any plans for that.

I've got to say that every time I see him in a one on one interview, he comes across really well. He's pretty likeable, and his voice doesn't grate as much as I thought!

I watched it too but concluded that he's as evasive as any politician that I've ever seen. However, rather than not playing his hand for tactical reasons, I took his refusal to answer nearly all the questions he was asked (by a very gentle, supportive questioner who is himself, I believe, a member of the Labour Party) as a sign that he really doesn't know what he's talking about. I genuinely believe that he's a bit thick.

I think he's wonderful and should serve the labour party for many years.

That would be nice, especially before even discussing the other four I named, let alone Blair (must be Labour's 2nd worst tax avoider of all after Hodge) or Brown (why don't the figures for his charity add up?).

The fact is that the last three leaders of the Labour Party all have serious questions to answer over the tax they pay, and all the more so when you judge it against what you might refer to as "Labour values". As I've said before though, when you put their hypocrisy on one side of the argument, and the fact that 'Labour' is a lovely-sounding proper noun on the other, the result is that Labour voters will still vote Labour.

In areas where it is a choice between Labour or the Tories then it is most definitely the lesser of two evils but I expect a lot of traditional labour voters to defect to the greens based on party policies, though a lot of floating voters will vote Labour due to the mess this government are making of the economy and public services (meals on wheels dropped by 63% under this government, the largest drop in wages in history, borrowing more than every Labour government in history)
