The General Election Thread

This 'virulently right wing' thing. Just shite. I look at most threads, and I don't really see anything virulently right wing. From some of the shite posted here you'd think this was a NF board. Fucking nonsense. There are plenty of Lefties on here who argue the toss with the Rightie lot - and that's how it should be.

As for posting hatred and bile, I always go back to the Thatcher thread here, and there is no way any of the RWNJs post anything near as hateful as what was posted on there by LWNJs. Funny that the right wing loonies didn't decide to leave the board en masse!

This is why I dislike the use of "right wing/left wing", it's nothing but a tool to bash someone you disagree with because the user either doesn't have the intellect, nous, patience, eloquence and/or open-mindedness to have a reasonable discussion about it.

"There's a lurch to the right because the people who criticised Israel's foreign policy have been banned"...well I'm still here for one, and I wouldn't consider myself either left wing or right wing. Yet the posters who are the most vociferous Tory or UKIP supporters aren't really the defenders of Israeli foreign policy, the defenders are largely the couple of mods and some other less notable posters, certainly in the context of those who got themselves into trouble.

There's so many broad strokes going on in generalising users/viewpoints etc. that you could paint a double yellow line all the way down the M62 to Hull in one swipe.

Pretty much why i do not engage in these threads. To many complete bullshit posts and if you disagree slightly your a right wing baby eating bastard.
It is shit and some posters should really take a break from it and leave the internet alone for a bit.

I'm middle of the road and because i am not a sickle swinging commie i would get accused no doubt of being a ultra right wing arsehole. It is a bit cringeworthy tbh also so i don't read them for that reason to.

Labour have said they won't increase corporation tax but will close the loopholes that allow people to abuse the system.
This sort of thing annoys me.

You can't close the fucking loophole that vodaphone, Starbucks et al exploit without global agreement thankstodouble taxation agreements.
You can. The government enacted General Anti-Abuse legislation a few years back and this came into force in January. The pricing transfer arrangements have nothing to do with double taxation agreements. What these companies are doing is making sales in this country but booking them to companies in Luxembourg or Ireland while their costs are paid from a UK-based company. So the profits are made in low tax regimes while their UK subsidiaries report losses. HMRC could declare that as an abuse and force them to pay tax on the basis that the sales were made in the UK.

If I tried to have my invoices booked to a company registered offshore they'd be down on me like a ton of bricks.

But many of the companies such as Google can truly operate from off shore, as can Amazon, Microsoft etc. Starbucks can be caught but in a digital world most non face to face businesses can truly operate as importers thus avoiding corporate tax or they can station important functions overseas and pay high arms length charges and this is where the real issue is and this needs to be solved multilaterally

As someome that comes from a Wintont/Eccles/Salford backgroud with all influences being that you vote Labour without thinking I would suggest that this forum is 'balanced'.

If anything I would say that there are a number of left-leaning posters that had made this thread feel 'left-biased' simply becuase the number of their posts and repeating of the same mantras drowning others out. That may have swung around in recent days but that is how it seemed to my (reasonably objective I like to think) mind.

These recent posts sugesting that the board has some polical pre-disposition have a whiff of desperation about them perhaps.

Let's get one or two things clear.

This is primarily a football forum and encompasses people from all walks of life, creeds, colours, religions and from all shades of the political spectrum. As long as people abide by the Code of Conduct they are free to post their views and opinions. If they breach the CoC, they face sanctions up to and including a permanent ban.

You are free to decide whether to post on here or not and if you decide not to bother, no one will stop you if that's what you want. If you want to join other forums and post on them, you're free to do so.

No one has been hounded off here or banned because of their politics, unless these were so extreme that they expressed views on here that breached the CoC. So we've banned some people who expressed views they'd cut and pasted from far right wing, anti-semitic or Islamophobic websites.

Some users felt they were denied "freedom of speech" on here and went elsewhere. That's their choice. Some chose to join them who'd been banned from here for persistent or serious CoC violations. No problem with that as it's a free country. As "The Pound Shop Gordon Gecko" (aka SWP's Back) said so succinctly, that gave them the chance to express views that our CoC forbids. If that's what they want then fine. But some of them chose to be extremely abusive on this forum to posters on here who were of different ethnic backgrounds, religions, disabled, which none of you have really seen as we've mopped it all up. Not surprisingly that left no choice but to ban them.

Not because they were left wing, anti-Israel, muffin-ites, Mancini fan-boys, preferred 4-4-2, liked Morrissey or any other reason other than they broke the CoC by failing to respect other users.
With all due respect pb,that is horseshit. People have been banned because of their political persuasion, people have been treated very differently to others because of their political persuasion. If this forum lurches any further to the right you will have nigel farage joining in.
I get that there are extremes who cross the line but a group of people from one end of the political spectrum all deciding to leave should ring alarm bells,it hasnt so that will do for me.

I'm afraid I've got to agree with Blue Cigar. The lurch rightwards on this forum is thoroughly depressing, especially when you consider the absolute bile with which certain posters express their views, particularly against any poor sod who finds themselves in receipt of benefits, or anybody who happens to work in the public sector. Chav scum, scroungers, lazy bastards are a few of the kinder ways some use to describe their fellow human beings. They do it increasingly on here because they know they can get away with it, it's safe to do so - shit, it's almost expected.

That some on here feel they can be so virulently right wing is, I'm afraid, as a direct consequence of the departure of a large number of articulate and forthright posters from the left who, it seemed to me, all disappeared around the time that Israel was carpet-bombing the Palestinians.

What we're left with is quite a nasty, hateful forum where views that people would not dare express on the street or in the workplace are now the norm. Very, very sad.
With absolutely no respect, that post is horse shit.

You have two mods already explains why it is bollocks and yet you go and support it. If the forum is so horrible, you have a choice to not post on it and I love you are suggesting a Zionist agenda as to the reason why some were banned.

As for not daring to express ones views in the street, memo are you kidding? Just because you only associate with union members and lefties away from here, you think that views different to yours are somehow things that would be kept secret? You need to get out more. There are more Tories than socialists in England, maybe you should get used to that and accept that not everyone will share your political view point.

Talk about Left wing drama queen and deliberately inflammatory use of language.

For balance I would just like to point out two things :
Israel have never actually Carpet Bombed anyone!
They do not even posses the Aircraft to do this, you cannot carpet bomb with A4 F4 F15 F16 aircraft ,

so that is actually a total fabrication a very poor attempt to embellish your ludicrous proposition.

That is unfair The Baby eating Bishop of Bath and Wells was a Man of God!!

In my experience left-wingers have real acceptance issues when it comes to people with right wing views. This is possibly because they mix socially overwhelmingly with people who share their view of the world, or possibly because some of them cannot appreciate the reasons behind someone holding right-wing views unless they are rich or or powerful.

This has manifested itself on this thread in the last few pages in terms of people failing to appreciate that perception isn't always reality. This forum has never had a right-wing bias - and that remains the case. I think there are more right-wing posters on here now than at other points, for reasons already outlined, but that isn't the same as the Forum being 'right-wing', although it may explain the perception among some.

The main point is that there are as many people in this country (England) who have a conservative (with a small 'c') view of the world as those with a progressive one. The facts are there for all to see. This forum reflects that. That people don't like that is unfortunate for them, but that's democracy.

I'd say this thread was fairly representative of the wider electorate.

Pretty bang on the money.

Can we all now get back to slagging Dave the Toff, Beaker, and whatever we've decided to call Nicky boy. Oh, and how many years the SNP will drag the country back if they dare to get enough seats in a democratic election to form a coalition!
