Gorgeous George on the radio before talking about getting people in work off benefits, contributing to the whole society. Freeing up vital funds for society's vulnerable. All the pieces of the jigsaw are falling into place in the last week of campaigning, it's a straight choice now!

You clearly haven't worked out how much a 5% increase in VAT puts on the price of a new Bentley or god forbid a new Helicopter or Yacht have you?

They are probably all bought tax free through some Cayman Island account and then double claimed back as expenses through some Swiss based accountancy firm called c**t and Sons.

The yachts will be registered in Liberia and the helicopters will be classed as company cars that can fly a bit.

They will then all be scrapped and claimed for on insurance and half the takings will be donated to the Tory party through one of there mates hedge funds.

I look forward to the day Ed the Red gets hold of this family of tax avoiders and forces them to pay the Treasury , the Tax they avoided.

Not sure there should be an apostrophe after lawyers' [sic].

In any event the inclusion of the word lawyers itself is nugatory. You wouldn't say "I had an orthopedic surgeon's* operation on my knee", for example.

* correct use of apostrophe on this occasion.

The more you look into Ed's background it becomes quite clear what a Hypocrite he actually is
He bangs on about inheritance tax Yet he prospered quite well from the money his father left him.
He bangs on about social housing yet he himself has made a small fortune out of buying and selling
property
Accuses Cameron of profiting from a millionaires tax relief yet he will also benefit
He hides his Middle class upbringing and education
and now his latest desperate vote winner is promising to get tough on Immigration whilst forgetting he himself is a second generation immigrant

No. We need politicians with at least 20 years experience of the real world, rather than the collection of power hungry, unprincipled, anodyne wankers we see in parliament today. You seriously think his ancillary work 'supporting his local community' was designed with anything else other than becoming an MP in mind? In any event, six years isn't nearly enough experience of the real world. As I said, it's wholly insufficient. Why can't he do another ten years 'supporting his local community' before standing for parliament?

The answer to that question demonstrates where his true priorities lie.

Why?

What benefits does having a bunch of 50 year old people deciding the current and future legislation of the people? How is this in anyway representative of the populace? How do when then get a Prime Minister under the age of 60? Unless you think a Prime Minister who has no experience in Parliament is a good idea?

You don't know if this man is power hungry, unprincipled or anodyne nor whether his path to becoming an MP was thrust upon him or a long term career plan. You've made up traits that he holds then have gotten angry about him holding those traits.
Not quite sure how having twenty years experience of the real world makes you 50.

I believe those who govern us should have a meaningful degree of experience of the lives we all lead. That way politicians can make decisions about the way laws are made with a sufficient degree of context. For that reason I would make the minimum age for an MP to be 40. It would put off significant numbers of those who are in it merely for its own ends, as the barriers to entry would be much more exacting.

My assessment of his character in terms of him being power hungry is based on the fact he's standing for parliament without any discernible life extraneous that aspiration, other than being an amateur photographer, which makes him sinfully anodyne.

Perhaps it was 'thrust upon him' when he was studying politics at university.

I misread it as 30 originally.

Your argument is a simplistic one when you boil it down and suggests that management cannot come without shopfloor experience. Suggesting that the CEO of Microsoft should have 20 years of programming experience is fatuous at best.

The United Kingdom is a Corporation for all intents and purposes. The Chairman of the Board is the Queen and the CEO is the Prime Minister. Why the Director of Communication or Director of Human Resources needs to have experience in the company beforehand isn't adequately explained.

This is obviously ignoring the massive fallacy that politics "isn't the real world" or is "less real" than other tasks.

Then there's the fact that whether we like it or not, 32 million people in this country are under the age of 40 and you have arbitrarily decided that they may not be represented in Parliament by somebody of their own generation.

This whole idea is ill-conceived, undemocratic and relies on the logic that to manage a system who must fully understand every part of that system. Any experience in the so-called real world and the structure of businesses should show you the fallacy in that.

You continually spout extreme right wing nonsense, yet your understanding of socialism is on about the same level as my next door neighbours staffordshire bull terrier.

Everyone in the UK is an immigrant at some point, especially the Royal family the Tories are fond of, Farage and Boris. Therefore no one should be allowed to mention it...

You think the current system is well-conceived and democratic? Or for that matter, fit for purpose?

There are also (I guess) over ten million people under the age of 18 who don't have any representation by law, in the way you refer to it. In actual fact, extending the logic of your argument further, as the youngest MP is (I believe) 30, then in actual fact the majority of the 32 million people to which you refer have no representation from someone of their own generation presently.

I find your postulation about running the country being analogous to running a corporate entity to be both baffling and completely misconceived, particularly bearing in mind your recent comments about KFC in another thread. Running a company like Microsoft means your main priority is to the shareholders of that company, who theoretically at least, can remove you from office at any time. Being an MP, short of convictions for criminality or being declared bankrupt (I think), means you (theoretically) have unfettered powers as an MP for a term of parliament, included in which is the power to determine laws, not just for those who voted for you, nor just for your constituents in general, but also for wider society. The distinction between that and running a corporate body should be clear to anyone applying their mind to it.

You are perfectly at liberty to use pejorative terms to describe my suggestion, but the reality is the current system is broken. I have arrived at a suggestion in order to try and mend that system, having set out my reasons for doing so, and why I believe it would work better.

Quite simply, I believe parliament would be a much better place if it wasn't so full of people who've only ever been politicians. Perhaps you feel the opposite.

He may be a hypocrite, but he is not a Socialist. Your lack of understanding as to what a socialist is should by now astound me but i will keep trying to explain it. Banging my head against a brick wall has become my usual tactic on here of late. Knuckleheaded right wingers will get it eventually. After all some of you have learnt how to count to 10.

You are stretching a point there aren't you?
There is a bit of a difference between 2 generations and 200,000 years

and are you sure Farage has ever said he would come down strongly on Immigration? he may have mentioned about introducing a points system similar to Australia

Everybody but the Ultra left consider Ed to be a socialist including Ed himself
The Labour party grew out of the trade union movement and socialist political parties of the nineteenth century and has been described as a broad church; the party contains a diversity of ideological trends from strongly socialist, to more moderately social democratic.
