The gloryhunters are starting to arrive...

Been watching since 1967,could argue that most of you guys are "Glory Hunters" since the logic of when you started watching Gods own Team means it was after me.
Nonsense really
Does not matter when City became your team as long as it is.
Its inevitable we expand our fan base and its all going to be new supporters on a local, national and international basis.
The club is changing and we have to adopt with it,no longer a cult northern thing we are intent on becoming a world wide brand for better or worse.
Let me think out of the box, picture the Champions League Final in two years time 3/4's of the ground in sky blue. Can you pick out the old guard City fan's ?
No
Does it matter? We will all be there shouting them home, thats all that counts.
Since 67 I wanted the Football Club to be regognised as the best in the world whining about who supports us and why is of no importance we each hold the faith in our own way new or old.
Relax and enjoy the ride, welcome the new believers.

on a yank forum i post on a lot of new posters have suddenly pledged alliance to man city and when i question them on why they are 'fans' of our team, the answers are all inadequate

i really fear if we keep our current rate of spending on players up, where is this gonna leave us fans? like chelsea's hardcore? supported thier team in the thousands in the 80's yet cant get in now? will we end up the same?

i want success like the rest of you, but i cant help but feel all of us who have supported the team for years are going to get slung aside for profits, and it will happen imo

sorry for doommongering :)

i think you make a good point, i happen to think city are a better club than chelsea and the rags and would not shit on a set of fans that havestood therepaying their hard earned watching 34 years of shite.

The other thing to consider is that it's those 'gloryhunters' that will increase our income bith by buying things directly and increasing our pulling power with advertisers and commercial sponsors, plus Sky & the Premier League.

yes true

but we nearly fill out our ground with proper support these days, that should be enough

-- Sun Jul 04, 2010 12:10 am --

i hope so too mate but really cant see it happening. hope your right though

If you've been going since before Thaksin, you have enough points to ensure you'll be around for the future anyway.

If you cba going anymore, then, if what you say is true, ther'll be queues of people willing to get to the ground week in week out and support the team.

Its up to us to keep the values of the is club at the forefront of each fans mind, but at the same time, i'd never moan at a new supporter for not being brought up under Piccadilly Station.

We've a special club here, i've no problem sharing it. We've not looked like we're going to win anything yet, so the glory hunters as people have been calling them are obviously not flocking to us for bragging rights... just yet.

As someone else said, if our fanbase grows worldwide, then we're doing it right.

Actually, you could be classed as the original glory hunter - back in those days City were a top side, winning trophies and regularly beating the rags :-)

You just didn't have the sense to chase the glory to Liverpool and later the scum :p

I think the glory hunters may be smarter then all of us on this forum put together. They didn't go to their first football match ever and say we were up 2-0 at half and lost 3-2 that's got to be my team forever. No they had the good sense to shift loyalties from success to success never having to suffer bitter defeat and constant let downs. All they've had are constant highs and happiness.

Tongue firmly in cheek thank you.

And yes, that really is how I became a for life fan.
