The Great British Rip off

the acceleration of prices is quite alarming now, particularly in the leisure/hospitality sectors.

many have moaned (myself included) about pint/food/etc price increases over the years but the incremental change has meant that most continue to pay, but for the first time in memory, I know of many people who will now not pay out of principle or finance. It's got to the stage where drinking out, even just going for days out, is becoming ludicrous.

some of this is external market forces, some of it is naked greed. But the price hikes are now outstripping earnings and self respect.

I am hoping in a way that this resets a few things, that things become a bit more home grown and cheaper to run/pay for. but i know red tape is hideous in this country, so it's a bumpy ride.

Literally not that much different to the vast majority of bars/pubs in Manchester city centre. Outside of Wetherspoons, the Piccadilly Tavern, Sinclair's Oyster Bar, and the Lower Turks Head (now that Holts have it), the Hare And Hounds, and that rotten stuff they serve in Wave Bar and Sachas, you won't be paying much less, if at all. I've sometimes even found London pub prices to be cheaper than some Manchester bars in recent years when doing an away game down The Smoke.
Lower Turks Head was almost double Hare and Hounds a couple of doors away last time I went in since Holts.

Almost every single item of food has risen by at least 20p. A couple of months ago a pint of milk was 65p now it's 79p. A loaf of bread was 45p, now 65p and so on. If a person just buys 20 items a week that an extra £4 a week and £16 a month extra minimum. Then we have the crippling fuel costs. These are essentials people need to survive before we even get to any idea of luxury purchases like football, going for a night out and a holiday. I have no idea how fuel companies can get away with rising prices so much when they're making billions in profits. Government has to step in and do something about this madness, that's their job, to protect and serve the people. I once read that up to 10,000 people a year freeze and starve to death in Britain. If true that is a shameful statistic. What is going to happen this winter??

That much difference? Granted LTH is more expensive than H&H even after Holts bought it but I wasn't aware that the gap was that big. Last time I was in LTH was before the Newcastle home game at the back end of last season but we didn't go in the H&H that day so couldn't compare.

£12 to £7 not quite double, that was a pint and same double spirit and mixer. Hare and Hounds it is next time.

Surprised they allowed it in, they wouldn’t at Rewind, no food or drink allowed in, unless it’s a sealed bottle of water.
Was a little festival somewhere.
I pretty much gave up on festivals after we ended up scrapping with security over a box of butties we tried taking into one in Staffordshire.

I had a stand at tramlines festival this year they charged my 20k plus vat for just the pitch, in all it cost 33k. The rip off starts with the people running the event! We doubled the price of our offerings and still lost money!
