Nah.

Marvellous Marvin v Tommy Hearns first round

Great.... a very entertaining early finish vs...

A monster of an unbeaten heavy weight, one of the best that's ever been for that matter, getting beaten by a man who had his heavy weight crown unjustly stripped due to racism 6 years before, winning it back in a style that had never been seen before, when he was predicated by the majority to get murdered.

It was the greatest come back of all time.

I agree with that sentiment.

Fantastic though Hagler Hearns was, such all action wars are far more common at middleweight and below because of the natural speed and mobility of the fighters. I've got old videos of Rocky Graziano vs Tony Zale (and also fighters like Robinson, La Motto and Marcel Cedan) that are incredible. There's one where Zale batters Graziano senseless and instead of stopping it, the ref drags Graziano up of the canvas so they can carry on, and Graziano ends up winning an absolute war of a fight.
What makes Ali unique then is that he was a heavyweight with the hand and foot speed of a middleweight. That 1st round against Foreman wins hands down for me. Probably the most devastating heavyweight puncher of all time, apart from Ernie Shavers, and Ali contemptuously throws endless right hand leads at him, and then moves before Foreman can even register that he's been hit, never mind throw a left hook in response. The most incredible exhibition of boxing skill there's ever been IMO

Of course there's no difinitive answer. Statistics can only tell you so much and make it impossible to compare across sports.

A golfer winning six PGA tournements on the trot for example, would be virtually impossible but a run of six games in badminton, wouldn't even be worthy of comment.

If we're going off stats however, Jahangir Khan must have a good claim for his run of 555 consecutive victories in squash.

Although the title is sportsMEN, in the interests of equality I think Esther Mary Vergeer should get a mention for the ladies.

She is believed to have the greatest winning percentage of any professional sportsperson. Won 700. lost 25.

Including an undefeated streak of 470 victories to finish her career in wheelchair tennis.

I'll probably just be boring and go for Ali though. Bradman second.

Who do you think it is pound for pound for what they have done in their respective sports?

My 3 would be

Tiger Woods, Phil Taylor, Muhammad Ali

I dont remember Ali and have only seen fights on youtube/DVD's etc, because of this i've had to narrow it down to Woods & Taylor.

I decided to go for the Power, for what he has won & what he has done for darts - Unreal.

i know i know it is technically a sport but i am always going to struggle to name someone "THE GREATEST SPORTSMAN EVER" if he cant run 30 yards without wheezing
