The Hacienda - The Club That Shook The World - Sat BBC2 10.15pm - featuring me

Did I hear somewhere she was paid £200 for the gig? which was shown on the Tube. Or maybe the Tube was from the Hac that week?
Yes the Tube came live from The Hacienda that episode.
She was paid £50 and Rob Gretton asked her manager if she wanted another £50 to play Saturday night too. It was declined.
It was her first gig in the UK.

One of my (many) claims to fame was putting the band All About Eve on their road to stardom outside The Hacienda......

I was a delivery driver for a printing firm in Sale and we did letter headed paper, business cards and envelopes etc for loads of businesses in town. One was above the Hacienda behind the glass windows on the curvy corner.
I parked outside the club one day and then a Volkswagon hippy van pulled up behind me and this tall, thin Gothic looking bloke gets out and asked me if I knew where The Boardwalk was. I happily gave the short directions and asked him what band he was in.
I'd never heard of them yet the following week they were on The Chart Show.
Within 4 months they had gone from The Boardwalk to both Internationals and The Apollo and had a hit single.
Just imagine had they never found The Boardwalk they may never have made it.....

Your description could well have been Marty Willson Piper, though still guitarist with Aussie legends, The Church then, he did play with All About Eve back then for a year or two.
(He is actually English, born near Marple, brought up on The Wirral)

Paul from just outside Bury is actually accurate but didn’t make for a good user name back in 2007. In my defence, my nickname is Dave and I lived in Didsbury at the time. I now live in Yorkshire and have also lived in london and Berkshire to make it even more complicated.

So no, you won’t see Didsbury Dave at all. It’s Paul.
Seems like most of the decent posters on here are called Paul ; )

By 1990 we were mainly regulars at Konspiracy and whilst edgy, that played the proper cutting edge music from all around the scenes the sort of stuff you heard on the 808 show in sunset radio. The hacienda’s heyday was 88-89.
Wondered how long it would be before you trotted your Konspiracy story out! ;-)
