The Hacienda - The Club That Shook The World - Sat BBC2 10.15pm - featuring me

One of my (many) claims to fame was putting the band All About Eve on their road to stardom outside The Hacienda......

I was a delivery driver for a printing firm in Sale and we did letter headed paper, business cards and envelopes etc for loads of businesses in town. One was above the Hacienda behind the glass windows on the curvy corner.
I parked outside the club one day and then a Volkswagon hippy van pulled up behind me and this tall, thin Gothic looking bloke gets out and asked me if I knew where The Boardwalk was. I happily gave the short directions and asked him what band he was in.
I'd never heard of them yet the following week they were on The Chart Show.
Within 4 months they had gone from The Boardwalk to both Internationals and The Apollo and had a hit single.
Just imagine had they never found The Boardwalk they may never have made it.....
Loved all about eve, still got the their first album knocking about the house. Might dig it out this weekend and give it a blast

Hippodrome or Thunderdome?
Neither way too Hardcore.
Thunderdome was like a zombie movie when i visited their once.
us lot from Heywood were split, half went Hippo's (the hardcore crew) and the rest of us used to travel further afield for house and garage

Well said mate. I loved both. You will hear me talk on the program (if they include it) about my eyes being opened to electronic music which started with Blue Monday and finished with Voodoo Ray.
As did many. The fusion of the two, after all, was what defined the Manchester music of the time and a new world sound.

I went from 88 til 93. NUDE night was ace (and not just house) but last two years were wank and not sure even now why I kept going once Salford took over the door.

It’s turned into our very own Cavern.

I imagine Peter Hook has made his money back that he lost during its actual existence…and then some. How can you celebrate 40th birthday for something that hasn’t existed for 25 years of that time is beyond me….bah humbug!
Peter Hook is an absolute knob !

Should’ve advised that if they ever got to play TOTP, to make sure the mic was on.
