The Hacienda - The Club That Shook The World - Sat BBC2 10.15pm - featuring me

Yep Friday Nude night with Pickering and Parkes were legendary nights. Really worked the crowds and sometimes I was just high on the music.
That was what it was about. Thursday nights were decent but if you went on a Saturday you’d wonder what all the fuss was about. Fridays were what mattered, and really we are talking 88-91.
Fridays 88,89 and 90 were the most special for music and atmosphere.

At that time for example Park wasn’t just playing the house/vocal house stuff he veered to afterwards - in those 88-90 years they’d also include harder stuff like Liaison D, Derrick May and Reese alongside classics like Ride On Time and the rest when they were upfront, underground tunes.

Those nights when you found yourself on the edge of the stage throwing ridiculous shapes for tune after tune will never leave me.

Before going there I was used to going into clubs, seeing it quiet, have a couple of drinks and maybe hit the dancefloor later on. But on a Friday when you got in there, you walked in and everyone was fucking mental from the off and it wasn’t even 10pm.

The Hacienda was the first club I went to in 1997. Northern Soul on a Thursday night. It was fucking shite, there was no one there.

Cant be that long after that it shut. Only went the once.

Laurent Garnier, Jon Da Silva Mike Pickering were the best of the regular dj's.
I only got inat the arse end and the music was either hand bag or progressive, the place was dying on its arse when I started going to the club nights.
It's cultural relevance can't be understated. The sad part is that factory would not have gone bust, if it had released all the second wave of house stars that the clubs epiphany had influenced. How stuff like Sub Sub, K Klass and M People ended up on Robs Records and Deconstruction is a scandal. Literally, 2 of the main players in the whole Hacienda and Factory story were releasing stuff elsewhere.

I will watch the documentary. Peter Hook is full of shit, so I hope he's not in it. Seeing as ge owns the trademark and can't keep his gob shut, he will be plastered all over it.
