The idiocy (and selfishness) of panic buying

I made pasta yesterday.

Ate dinner about an hour later than I expected to and it was a bit rustic looking tagliatelle but it was fun and tasted better than store bought anyway.

Only problem was it used a lot of eggs (6) and I'm not sure how easy it will be to get more of those.
Anything like milk and eggs I’m just using the corner shop, they’re limiting the amount you can buy and haven’t run out of anything yet.

Finding anything you can't freeze or store for long relatively easy. So milk, yogurt, cheese, fresh fruit and veg are ok.

dont think it’s happening in every country ?

agree. It’s beyond awful.

wish there could be bank controls on max spend.

army lads to ensure fair distribution on vital stocks.

Doesn't seem to be in North Italy but then they have applied stricter rules for shopping. Queuing 2 meters apart and only so many in a shop at any one time so overall seems more organised and means shelves are not stripped which in turn gives people confidence that when they do shop they can get what they want.

Conte the PM is also getting a lot of love with a 71% approval rating...from The Times

This is remarkable given that Conte was an unknown technocrat plucked out of university by two populist parties to become PM of an unstable coalition. The apparent lack of panic buying in N Italy also presumably a mark of confidence in the Italian government’

Crazy considering the numbers are rocketing out of control

I am fucking ashamed of this country.

When this is all done, I'm off.

I went to Sainsbury's in Sale this morning to get a birthday cake and pizza for my little girl's ninth birthday this weekend (had to cancel her party)

Everything, and I mean everything, was basically stripped from the shelves (it was 9am)

Fresh, non perishable, it was pretty much gone.

There was an elderly lady about 80-odd and she was having a panic attack right in the middle aisle. Nothing in her trolley and was tearing up when I went to see if she was okay?

She had wanted long-life milk and some toilet roll because she had none.

I told her to stay put and I would try and find a staff member to see if they had any in the stores being kept behind on the QT.

Nothing.

When I got back to the aisle, someone had taken the pizza out of my trolley.

The elderly woman was really apologetic.

She had nothing to apologise for.

Shouldn't even be going out.

Shameful.

I shouldn't laugh, but the pizza thing made me giggle, reminded me of when I got a load of cut price bargains from Tesco once, left my trolley, and some fucker raided it, but not only that, they put a shit load of lube underneath my other stuff lmao.

It’s crisis management and organisation. Italians think he has a grip on the overall situation. Same appears to be the case in France. The medical situation is separate from the making sure everyone else is fine and supplies are getting to the shops and into people’s homes.

Yeah, yeah. Is that what you told the missus when you got home?

Luckily, I clocked them lurking underneath whilst I queued for the till, I'd have certainly clocked them on the belt or when it came to pay as the groceries would have come to about £3,42, with that lot it'd have come to about £30-40, I shudder to think what would have happened had I missed it though, proper day walking nutjob.
