The idiocy (and selfishness) of panic buying

They all quit when the hours were reduced due to the WTD. These were 7.5 tonne with 2 in the cab and they could sleep a lot of time. Most were keen to work close to maximum hours, and set off at 3am to Thurso so they could get the overnight allowance. Maybe some wanted as many hours as they could get, and others who didn't wouldn't work there.
Wanting to double man a 7.5 tonne vehicle and doing those hours sounds very unique to me. Not the norm anyway and people that who are willing to that kind of thing contribute to the decline of the industry because that kind of thing becomes acceptable. What company was it?

Whatever the actual number of petrol stations without fuel, and the actual shortage, which is clearly extensive, Brexit has caused the current problem. By rapidly speeding up an issue, of shortage of labour and in particular drivers, to a point it has become unmanageable. Which was warned of consistently. Labour, as well as goods and materials, in many other sectors as well.

I actually agree with your repeated and ongoing point, on this thread getting heavily focused on brexit arguements. As much as I'm all for leavers seeing these I told you sos and maybe even considering the outcomes, ultimately I'm on this thread for videos of muppets trying to fill extra pertol into condoms and what not.

What I don't agree with, is arguing that Brexit has nothing to do with it. Particularly when other contributing reasons get discussed and that doesn't seem to be at odds with the topic of the thread.

Saying Brexit hasn't caused this, and the other big issues we have seen all year in all sectors, is like saying shooting yourself in the foot hasn't caused your limp because that urinary infection you had some time ago was already making you walk a little sideyways.
I didnt bother reading all of your post. I got to the Brexit blame bit and sacked it. You clearly want to blame Brexit for everything so I will let you carry on in that belief as nothing will change your mind. Not even facts

And you carry on ignoring and removing it from every shitshow it has caused. Unfortunately we all have to live with it, and don't all get to bury our heads in the sand and come up with all sorts of alternative takes to deny what a disaster it is, across all sectors.

No I don't. I fully admit Brexit has caused problems, hgv drivers, casual staff etc etc. My point is this is not a Brexit issue. If people make everything about Brexit it weakens the arguement when there is a genuine problem.
This is an issue about BP cutting costs, it back firing and a stupid lemming like reaction by the public.

Went past about 4 petrol stations on my way to work this morning. All had fuel, no panic buying, business as usual.

Most of this shit is just the media causing a frenzy over absolutely nothing as usual. Even the BBC, the supposed bastion of balance and objectivity were running a minute by minute live blog of forecourts. Absolute madness.

Incite fear. Get clicks. Sell papers. Repeat.

The holidays are coming...

I heard it’s all a gimmick all the fuel they had from COVID needs shifting as it has a lifespan so when we weren’t moving about it stocked up, think it’s shite personally but there you go

Sounds fanciful but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

The media and petroleum industries wouldn't possibly dream of doing anything underhand and unethical would they, not in a million years...

Wow. That really is a nightmare. A shortage of gifts!. No plum pudding! Almost wish I was living in somewhere like Afghanistan so I wouldn't have to endure such a hard Christmas here.

I'm just hoping for a shortage of turkeys like they are saying as I hate it but Mrs Mist insists we have it.

Costco offers envelope dropped through the door yesterday - complete with Christmas Turkey offers...
...do I wait for Morrisons Turkeys to appear in their freezers (and risk missing one) or do I go for the Costco offer?

Decisions, decisions.

On the plus side I have a full tank of diesel in my Gas Guzzler 4x4 now after filling up yesterday morning on the way back from dropping my son off at the Airport!

When will the headlines be about a shortage of Father Xmas's, about 4/5 weeks is my guess
