MP's serve the constituency, not the party and not just the people who voted for them.
However, they are elected on a party manifesto or if independent on their own declared policies. The moment their affiliation changes they should have the courage to call a by-election to seek the backing of those they claim to represent.
May for all her idiocy at least had the courage to call an election. All 11 members of the independence group have currently no mandate to sit. Many of them stood deceitfully in the last GE on policies they did not support but lacked the decency to say so at the time.

Is it not the case that traditionally. Labour=Centre left/Tories = Centre Right/Lib's = Centre,
But a shift to the centre by post-New labour (under Tony) and New-Tory (under David) to get votes is imploding and what you are seeing now is the old political hues coming back to the surface and washing out the mdidle men who should never have been there in the first place?
I dunno though, i have not been in the Uk for a while...
