The "infamous" Busby babes

My dad, now seventy and a lifelong Blue, also reckons that Edwards was the best outfield player he's ever seen (he would put Trautmann alongside him in terms of ability). I think there's no doubt he was a great player, and he probably would still have been in the England side in 1966.

The crash had a big effect on England's hopes in the 1958 World Cup. In addition to Edwards, the team had lost Roger Byrne, the first choice left back, and Tommy Taylor, its centre forward, both by all accounts also outstanding players.

I don't think there's any doubt that the Busby babes would have gone on to more domestic success over the following seasons given their quality and the relative youth of the team. Given the quality of the Real Madrid side of that era, they'd have had a harder job dominating Europe, but it doesn't seem fanciful to suggest that they may have won the European Cup at least once as well.

.Was George Best really that good seeing as he never played in a proper world cup game ??

In Best's defence, Northern Ireland are crap ;)

But he scored five against Northampton Town in the FA Cup as the BBC keep showing us, so that does make him the greatest player ever

Before I start i dont want this topic to descend into all out chaos about "rag this rag" that, "scum sing ****** songs", "united used it as a marketing tool" (which they did) because it bores me

How good actually were these so called "babes", United won the european cup 10 years later,

England won the world cup 8 years later, so did it really have such a huge affect on united and england?

Without being disrespectful they cant have been that bloody good

I heard somewhere only a few of them actually played internationally but they were young

and.. Duncan Edwards was he cracked up to what everyone says he was? or was it because they died peoples thoughts on them were blown completly out of proportion?

Its the Human thing to Big up people after theyve gone...Van gough couldnt give his paintings away when alive....James Dean was a crap actor but still an Icon..Was George Best really that good seeing as he never played in a proper world cup game ??

Whatever you think about Best and "them" only an idiot ( or a person with severely blue tinted glasses on) would question if he was one of the greatest players ever or not.

Of course Best was exceptionally gifted BUT I never once saw him get the better of Tony Book in a derby.

There was nothing infamous about them, other than the way the families were robbed by that piece of sh*t that calls itself a football club.

Yes they were a good team, Duncan edwards was a very good player, and yes I saw them play.

Its also true that a few of them were not on paper the best in the world, but as a team they worked, but remember this, they were never anymore than a little club, more than half the fans who went to old trafford were City fans, because Matt Busby was an ex City player who was well thought of, but also in them days there was no away supporters as such, and people went to watch a game.

I still have two programs from the game after the disaster, with the team names all blank, I still find idiots chanting about munich offencive, not just because of Swifty but some of those players killed were city fans, yes they played for them, but grew up supporting the Manchester team.
