The Labour Government

They would have to be here on a skilled worker visa and pay the NHS surcharge which is over £2,700 per year so quick maths mean it could ultimately cost £29.8bn a year sucked out of the economy - nearly £30bn - that will have to be replaced - you think taxes are too high now?
The skilled worker visa and health surcharge is paid by the applicant not the employer.

The employer pays for the immigration skills surcharge and the certificate of sponsorship.

Sometimes the employer picks up all of the costs but it’s by no means the norm.

Not sure it’s even that with some. Some are happy to float around voting for the protest party at each election and then are free to moan.

We British do love a good moan and voting for naming boats Boaty McBoatface will always pique the bantz people more than voting for a political party.

People are feeling less well off and are lashing out by wanting others to be worse off than them, rather than fixing the problems that make them worse off.

The need for cheaper energy prices is vastly greater than the need to dehumanise people arriving on boats, but it’s easier to tie some flags to lampposts than it is to affect change on energy companies.
That’s the main point if we all had shit loads of money, holidays and disposable income no one would give a flying fuck, unfortunately we don’t and they are an easy target, however, they are part of a bigger problem and it just can’t be ignored.

You’d have more money if energy bills were lower. It wouldn’t just save you on heating bills, it’d save you on everything you bought as prices would come down.

Equating that saving to stopping 45k people trying to claim asylum is a nonsense, especially when the last government’s self-made backlog is cleared.

The NHS's reliance on overseas labour is worrying I think. There are the ethical issues about cherry picking skilled staff from poorer countries and enticing them here for starters. Then there's also the issue of British graduates not getting jobs as doctors and nurses because there's insufficient funding of training places. We have somehow got ourselves into a situation where we import staff "on the cheap" to prop up the NHS, and it's not a particularly comfortable or sustainable position long term

Its ok because when they start doing this nobody will come. Why take up a job that for decades means overnight you will be removed? Good luck with that prostate exam in the future mate.

Right now, no, I wouldn't. We are a small island and we are NOT the 6th richest country in the world in any meaningful sense. We're about 20th IIRC per capita and even lower when you factor in purchasing power, nearer 30th.

And more importantly we are broke, and our public services are already over stretched. British people can barely get a doctor's appointment in less than weeks and you can forget finding an NHS dentist. Kids have no chance of buying a house and our roads are crammed.

In future, if/when our economy and public services have recovered then yes we could resume. But right now I wouldn't accept any asylum applications.
We're 'broke' yet you moan about paying more tax.
I got a docs appointment for the same day last week.
NHS dentistry was fucked off years ago.
Kids can't get a house because the banks stipulate huge deposits.
I'll give you the roads are crammed but that, like your other reasons to stop immigration, is fuck all to do with immigrants.

still money not being paid into the treasury no matter who pays it - thats about 3p on Income Tax just to stand still. And even if they reach their nirvana and nobody comes they still won't have won any votes - Reformers are not going back to Labour but what they need to understand neither are people like me. Have already told my newly elected MP who is a good constituency MP to enjoy the rest of his term because his boss has cost him his job

I agree on energy, however 45k is not just a drop in the ocean is it, like I’ve stated before my mates girlfriend works in immigration and they aren’t telling us the truth, that backlog the tories said they got rid of was absolute bollocks, a lot of those people just “disappeared” and like many things in the public sector they used that as cleared, massaging statistics as they always do.
I said they aren’t the only issue, but they are certainly part of it and an easy target because it’s something tangible that people can see, unlike electricity!

If your mate’s account is true, then it won’t be easy to sort as they don’t know where people are.

I’m totally up for making sure that we account for everyone claiming asylum and quickening their decisions will lessen their need to abscond to get money to live off the black market.

Had I been in government, I’d have fired a lot of money into recruiting decision makers and removing the backlog asap. Alas, I am not.

I’m all for sorting the low hanging fruit issues, but they won’t get us very far. It’s systematic change that we need, with the wellbeing of the people at the centre and a message of hope.

We need to end this performative cruelty asap.

They have lost the fucking plot with todays upcoming announcement - set aside the damage to the supply of doctors, nurses etc this will do if it succeeds and they get zero migrants - none at all. Google says there are 10,7m legal migrants living here. They would have to be here on a skilled worker visa and pay the NHS surcharge which is over £2,700 per year so quick maths mean it could ultimately cost £29.8bn a year sucked out of the economy - nearly £30bn - that will have to be replaced - you think taxes are too high now?

forget this Britain its gone forever

In a country of 66m people 10.7m have immigration status? Are you sure now?

The NHS surcharge isn’t £2700.

Other than that it’s a really good bit of quick math.

In fairness just because you got an appt same day doesn't mean thats the norm because it certainly isn't.
Im not sure the best way to fight Reforns exaggerated rhetoric is by doing exactly the same.

Confiscating non sentimental jewellery. Will there be a new government department to investigate or a pawn shop division to fence the goods??

Also, do gold teeth count?

Surely we won’t be ripping necklaces off people and tearing out gold teeth or fillings that are deemed to be of value??

Plenty of well off Hong Kong refugees here in south side Manchester. That would have been a potential gold mine - maybe we’ll back date it and go knocking on doors or pitch up at the private schools at picking up time and take it there??

From what the article said if someone pitched up with a bag of gold rings they’d look to confiscate them to help pay for their keep. Little different if one of us got made redundant tomorrow we’d have to exhaust our savings before the state would step in or we needed social care, they pretty much exhaust our assets before picking up the bill.

I don’t see the problem with it, we can imagine 99.9% won’t have owt with them. Although it does have a whiff of Nazi’s and Jewish possessions so could (and should) have been worded a lot better.

Labour are getting tough on migration when the Tories had 14 years to do so - they are doing this without the need to leave and rip up the ECHR and without the rhetoric of 'mass deportation now!' - It's needed and making Reform look like imbeciles.
You wouldn't think so the way the algorithms are. portraying this government as weak and feeble and only Nigel is strong enough to move the country forward...etc

1. We're 'broke' yet you moan about paying more tax.
2. I got a docs appointment for the same day last week.
3.NHS dentistry was fucked off years ago.
4. Kids can't get a house because the banks stipulate huge deposits.
5.I'll give you the roads are crammed but that, like your other reasons to stop immigration, is fuck all to do with immigrants.
1. Of course I moan about paying more tax. We're broke. You don't fix that by making people and the economy with it, more broke. Der.
2. Nothing serious I hope?
3. Oh that's alright then. Silly me.
4. The population has gone up by 10m in the past few years. And we have not managed to build enough houses to accommodate that lot, let alone any extra to increase supply to stop prices for endlessly escalating. Your comment about deposit requirements is nonsense. You can still get 100% mortgages. ( And historically you could only get 3x or max 3.5x single salary and 2.5x Joint. Now you can get 5x.
5. It's everything to do with immigrants. 10m of them.
