The Labour Government

The British gov is holding an investment conference. A swathe of international bankers and investors has said the time is right to invest in Britain, PROVIDED THE GOV IMPROVE RELATIONS WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR.
So the transport secretary trashes P&O and calls for a boycott. P&O is now a Dubai company planning to invest in a major way. It took Starmer sweet talking them to repair the damage.
Labour must learn the lesson and drop their historic antipathy to the private sector or a major opportunity will be lost. Post Brexit our future depends on it.
The transport secretary remains in her post.
But this is straight out of the populist playbook.
Politician says something that the grass roots members want to hear.
More senior politician backtracks to intended partner/ troublesome ally.
It's political "good cop-bad cop" but with each side identifying the two differently.

In this instance I think it was a clear reminder to DP World (P&O) that they won't get away with the things they did under the Tories. The investment line is just RW newspaper BS. Do you think companies flip-flop on billion pound investments on an hourly basis?

DP World were always coming to the party, their investment isn’t benevolence, it’s for their own means.

Simon Webb is 100% correct in saying Lammy will be upfront in these Reparations negotiations and is not remotely on our side and will cost us billions we can’t afford on totally bogus handouts
He may negotiate but Reeves will write the cheques and Starmer will OK them. He's effectively a front man.

This is not right imho.
1 P&O was sold and merely retains the name, no senior management.
2. Even if the grass roots want to hear it, you do not say it on the eve of the conference.
3. The investment is not secure. It is still a plan.
4. Starmer clearly believed what the company were saying, hence an emergency meeting.
5. We are looking to UAE for 10 billion investment coming our way. Chances should not be taken; they have suspended the package previously.

We could always give them The Falklands and Gibraltar. They must be worth something ;)

I don't know whether what that chap says is correct or not.

But my impression about Lammy is that he tends to shoot from the hip and says what comes into his head sometimes not thinking. That is an unenviable quality for any secretary for stat.

Put it another way, early days I know, but sadly he doesn't appear to have the intellect and integrity of a certain former Labour Foreign Secretary, Robin Cook. But few do these days.
Said that when he first got appointed the guy is useless and clearly has an agenda.
