The Labour Government

spent the morning in hospital again - Indonesian, Malaysian, Nigerian, Rwandan, etc, etc, etc - superb care from all - thats the "type" these people don't want because they don't look like them - pity "they" can't decline them treatment
It is a scandal foreign workers have to pay a fortune for visas to work here, they are front line workers, here to nurse us back to health and save lives , to keep the hospitals and surgeries clean and open

The two nurses that boris said saved his life had to go home because soon after the cost of visas shot up , he used them for a photo op but didnt give a shit about them really

Actually we need younger people for our services and the economy in general. Too many old fuckers draining the system. Mind you, recent legislation *cough* may deal with the latter problem. Forcing women to produce more babies is next on the list.

On a more serious note, if you want to suggest a radically different economic model to solve the aging population/declining birth rate squeeze then I’m all ears.

They have mismanaged it. They’ve failed to ensure local communities could support them in the local GPs, schools, hospitals etc. these institutions could absorb it for a time but eventually the numbers overwhelm the capacity. And what do the politicians do? Blame the immigrants. Great work if you can get it.

Fair point.

I wouldn’t say successive Govts have mismanaged immigration. The numbers that come here do so because there are jobs to be filled. It is supply and demand.

Brexit was always going to increase immigration because being in the EU allowed us to draw upon a larger labour pool that retains the ability to move back and forth without impediment. Additionally, once you close off that flexible labour pool and erect barriers to movement you incentivise immigrants to stay.

Railing against immigration or vowing to reduce numbers is akin to trying to prove the earth is flat. The numbers will always reflect demand and need. Trying to artificially suppress the numbers will lead to labour shortages and further depress the economy. The quickest ‘fix’ to reducing numbers would be to remove overseas students from the figures. Alternatively, we can damage the educational sector and encourage overseas students to go elsewhere and we should never underestimate the British desire for self-harm :)
I guess if there arnt jobs to be filled there is a welfare state to fall back on. The welfare state isn't so good or is non existent in many of the countries that these people are arriving from. So it's a win win for them?

Firstly, immigrants keep our services going. Health care, social care all rely on immigrant labour.

Secondly, immigrants contribute more to the fiscal ledger than they cost, families included. We’ve been importing labour since the year dot and the arguments against it are like Groundhog Day.

The weird thing is the UK integrates immigrants far better than most European nations. You only have to look at recent and current political party leaders in England, Scotland and Wales to see that.

We’re a funny old lot at times :)
We are not able to integrate the numbers of people at the rate they are coming in tho. Many debates have been had on here about it, but whatever way you look at it. The rate of housing, infrastructure and services have not kept pace, that's a simple fact. Hence the high house prices, long waiting lists for social housing, and long waiting lists for public services and health care.

Huh? They have to pay an initial £1k ish to the NMC to validate their fitness to practice plenty of trusts cover this. The visa costs £284 and lasts for 3 years again plenty of trusts will cover this cost - they are also exempt from paying the health surcharge of £1000 other immigrants have to pay - hardly scandalous.

Did you make a point of asking them their nationalities so you could write this post or is it yet another “story” of yours that fits the narrative?

It does sound like a tall story. I can’t imagine anyone going around asking the staff what country they came from, would come across as a racist nutter.

sentiment of xenophobia and now the new rejection of multi-culturalism.

It's just founded in a complex mess of racism, stupidity

a significant number of the people here are moaning bastards who hate immigrants.

I was born here and if Australia, Norway or Canada came calling then my bags would be packed!

Fuck me! After reading that I'd pack your bags and drive you to the airport myself!

It was said of Thatcher that she loved the country, she just hated the people in it. You strike me more like Blair, he was Prime Minister of a "better" country that existed entirely in his head, he was often disappointed how the people who actually live in it fell short and he still is.
