What are peoples opinion on Mandelson being the US ambassador ? That's potentially a very tough job with Trump coming in. No doubt Mandelson is a skilled political operator, but I have never warmed to him, after he had to resign twice over shady dealings.

Meaning : Someone who continuously stalks the corridors of power despite a career of scandal and murky relationships.

Only the "unskilled" get held to account in this game ;-)

So 30% more beds as they have been deported having had their claims refused. There was an article on here the other day showing hotels are shutting for asylum seekers as they are no longer needed.

The problem isnt the boats (although they don’t help) the problem is the authorised immigration 700k last year of which only a third was actually work visas! Lots are educational or social workers, the educational ones are allowed bring dependants over an that’s the problem, I’m not been funny but if you come to go to university then it should be you only and not X amount of family. The universities rely on lots of foreign students but they shouldn’t be bringing hangers on with them. Once they finish their education then unless they get a job cheerio.

They’ve changed it so students can’t bring their families. That’ll mean less will come over and who knows what that will do to tertiary education in the long term.

Once they’ve completed their degree, they have to leave unless they apply for a working visa.


I agree that the boats aren’t really a big issue, but they’ve been made to be the main issue by the press and populist politicians.

This was revoked in January of this year. It's good to see you're well on top of the subject as you'd probably only get a D- if you were at Uni studying immigration!!
