The Labour Government

Maybe another focus group has had a word with Keith?

They should've done that from the start. Same with the disability cuts and what's happening in Gaza. They had a chance to be properly good. That isn't who they are though.
And that, Dear Don, is politics.

For what it’s worth, I don’t agree with universal benefits, it should be on the requirements of the individual or the family group. I find it astounding that somebody who is very rich is able to get the WFP.

Saying that, I have an older friend who is very comfortable in his retirement who has refused to take his state pension, therefore WFA. Maybe there is a lot more of them out there who believe they don’t have to take their entitlement.

Not one to blow my own trumpet but ....
Surely the sensible, dare I say grown up, thing to do would be take a long term view and roll some other model out in time for next winter rather than go in two footed and burn political capital they can ill afford given their popularity is built on sand.

Pensioners on £230 a week aren't rich yet those are what most on here agreed should suffer the loss.

Their focus groups are completely out of touch as well.

I’m not sure that most agreed, the majority were opposed to the poorest losing out.

Like I said, I think the overarching principle is right, that those who do not need it, shouldn’t get it, and those that do shouldn’t be means tested as personal circumstances should dictate rather than a universal for all.

Hopefully the possible change in Labour policy will bring about real reform of the system, and look at the way we deal with the safety net.

Seeing as most are within your lobby, I’d guess not.

Do you need your WFA?
I’m not a pensioner - not close to being so - and I’ve always assumed that I wouldn’t receive a state pension by the time I reach that age.

But that’s irrelevant to the point, I.e. how certain posters have behaved on here defending shit decisions and the magic thinking they come up with when doing so.

Not seen that, but am willing to see the evidence.

So, this is just a political football to you, not a real issue?

It’s not an issue to me personally, as I’ve explained.

But I think it was a poor decision to remove the WFA - I didn’t agree with it, not least because of the known difficulties vulnerable pensioners face trying to access pension credit and other benefits. Plus the fact that something like the WFA decision should really have been in their manifesto.

Also, to be frank, I don’t really believe you haven’t seen any evidence of people on here defending the WFA cut and other poor decisions of late just because it was their side doing it.
