Well this happens with most governments, they often pull the plug on schemes that the other one implemented. I'm not saying it's correct.

Look at the shambles the last lot and the new government have made with what's left of our steel industry. Promises and priorities are very quickly forgotten sadly.

I tried it, and tended to agree with whoever said a round of golf was a good walk spoiled. And I never understood a game where the worse you were the more goes you got.

As for NI, I don't recall all this angst when Johnson increased employers' contributions in 2021.
 
What people still don't understand is that a state is in no way comparable to an individual or private business. They are clean different things, especially when the state has its own fiat currency.

I cannot (lawfully)-

Tax people.
Print money.
Borrow money over 40 (or even more) years at a cheaper rate than anyone else.

The state can.

The only danger in excessive spending - note 'excessive' - is that it can lead to runaway inflation. No sign of that. A huge chunk of the debt we effectively owe to ourselves. Why did no one care about the vast debt we carried for years to pay for World War One, World War Two, the Napoleonic Wars (yes!) and the huge sum paid in 'compensation' to slave-owning criminals? Because no one ever worried about any of these in my lifetime!

This country has long failed to invest, both in infrastructure and in our own people by way of education/training. If you want to see the consequences, look around you. We are spending a (relatively) small sum to repair the neglect of decades.

I guess many of you never service your cars as it's a bit extravagant.

BTW we could boost GDP tomorrow simply by rejoining the EU. It would probably pay for all the new defence expenditure and more.

What's Labour done wrong with steel? Too late to save the blast furnaces at Port Talbot but saved Scunthorpe, and committed another £2.5bn of support to the industry.

It clearly wasn't too late to save the blast furnaces at PT. The deal hadn't been signed, labour were negotiating it and went with the closure. It was a terrible decision, economically and from a climate point of view. TATA Just took the 500 million of UK taxpayers moeny and opened up a new blast furnace in India.

Let me educate you. Wentworth GC is owned by a Chinese company who charge the 'members' an insane amount of money to play there, all to make them money.
I'm a member of a private golf club, the members own the club. We charge a membership fee and aim to break even each year.

Spit on mate, I’ve got my golf friends and Blue friends us a cross over between them, I’ve met a lot of people through golf who are now very good friends including a few single lads who have lost partners through one reason or another.

Real terms not a big investment in infrastructure in fact for transportation a 5% cut.

Can only applaud the infrastructure spends. Whatever anyone thinks of the individual projects this is great news.

Infrastructure spends (usually) are the only things that give 100% return on investment. Unless it’s in things like HS2 that gets cancelled half way through of course.
