I am not saying this isnt a good list, it is, but lets be honest, most of this is a wish list and hasn't even been funded let alone accomplished as yet.

I have never known this country to be so angry with a government this early after winning the general election.
They have done astonishingly well to make such monumental fuck ups so frequently so early on, is probably why.

Ended long running disputes and strikes in the rail sector. Paid for how?
Same for NHS and Doctors Strikes although recent demands to deal with. So, they havent, then.
Took quick and decisive action to stop the Farage riots. 'The Farage Riots'. Not angry communities who are incensed at a lack of action aimed at stopping violent behaviour. No it's a 'Farage riot' Jesue wept.
Launched UKs biggest prison expansion in over a decade. It'll take at least a decade before that even reaches fruition.
Bought in legislation to nationalise the railways. Oh so that's how they're paying for the train strikers; get the public to pay them!
Launched GB energy act and billions in green investment. That was already being set up.
Workers rights bill - more protection against unfair dismissal, better rights for zero hour contracts and expanded paternity leave. Because that's what people were upset about!
Increased NHS funding by 30 billion annually- waiting lists have already decreased 5% Borrowing. The word you are looking for is 'borrowing'.
Began recruitment for 1000 more GPs.
Increased the minimum wage. It rises EVERY year in April, it's not an 'acheivement'. They were SUPPOSED to raise it to around £17 an hour to match the cost of living. They raised it by 73p. Woohoo.
Launched a 113 billion infrastructure project also including AI. Because that's a benefit!
Have begun recruiting 6500 extra teachers. Yay
Rolled out ‘Best Start’ hubs - backed by 500mill to support vunreable families. It's the give a man a fish/teach a man to fish, method. Labour is always choosing the former. People want to be able to afford to provide for themselves by having a decent wage, not handouts! That's like £200 per family at best!
Scraped Rwanda - working with EU and Macron on Migration issue and return agreement, record deportations and arrests of illegal workers up 51%. How's that working out for them, since the numbers have increased since.
Committed to increase defence budget to 2.5% and strengthening UK military. Yeah, they were kind of bullied into it by the Orange One and recent Russian aggression. They didn't 'want' to.
Invested significantly in housing and bought in the renters rights bill which will ban no fault evictions most significantly. A positive step, but a band-aid to a flesh wound. They needed to halt unfair rent increases.
Government task force to tackle homelessness with a 1 billion funding boost. By doing what? Where's that money going? What's the plan?
Introduced paid civil service internship programme.
Implemented ‘Ronan’s Law’ - including ban on Ninja Swords and an amnisty for illegal blades. And as a result, businesses and smithy's up and down the country which make such 'weapons' and decorative pieces, selling them to responsible adults, are now going to go out of business.
Enforced the online safety act prioritising child safety. Which is going to do nothing of the sort and is an example of their authoritarian mindset for control.

Being a nurse doesn't put you in the 'middle classes. I think the indicators are home owner, further education, savings/income and summat else

From BBC report:

The Social Mobility Commission, an independent body which advises the government on social mobility, has said a person's parental occupation is the most accurate measure available to assess someone's class.

It divides, external occupations into different categories including:

  • Professional and managerial occupations such as chief executive, doctor, engineer, teacher, nurse and journalist
  • Intermediate occupations which include jobs like driving instructor, IT engineer, shopkeeper and hotel manager
  • Working class occupations such as cleaner, waiter and bricklayer

Which just goes to show you can put a negative spin on any government achievement, shit on any policy and constantly snipe.
Thats why I originally asked which party would nowadays avoid the same abuse and vitriol Labour are enduring - no one can name one. It’s a poison chalice.

It cracks me up that you include increasing the minimum wage as an achievement, it’s something all governments have done since its inception. Next you’ll give them credit for remembering to breathe.

Out of interest why are nurses being made redundant with all this extra funding?

It was the biggest hike in the minimum wage for under 21s on record.

You did it all the time when the Tories were in power. You'll do it if another party replaces Labour at the next GE.

It was like 6p more! Tories raised it by 72p under Sunak and Labour raised it by 78p.

But the cost of LIVING is much higher now than when it was when Sunak increased it. Instead of raising it from £11.43 to £12.21, they were expected to raise it to around £15 an hour, nationally, and they didn't. Most thinktanks suggest the living wage should be £18 an hour. Labour will also make sure the minimum wage is a genuine living wage. Well, that's bollocks.

Step outside your London circle and realise they've done nothing spectacular regarding wages for the rest of the country.

Well that'll be Wes Streeting's personal fault!

Too many posters with metal in their name:-)

Do you think that it’s an unfairly negative spin to say that the NHS strikes haven’t been resolved?

Or is that actually a statement of fact?

You appear to have trouble distinguishing between the two.

yes, but it's not the only determining factor

Not quite. It was the biggest increase for 18-20 year olds by the largest amount.

Just to compare the last 2 years (last Tory government and first Labour government).

Tories:

Not quite the achievement you are trying to paint it out to be.

Not enough living in that there fancy Hampshire mate, I bet red cafe has plenty mind ;) I feel for you!!

I do think Streeting is a decent minister and it’s a one of them unintended consequence things. It’s happening because the trusts have been told to balance budgets this year with a £7bn black hole to fill. They were told to cut corporate function by 50% but the problem is you can’t run a hospital without a HR department but you can lose a discharge team as it’s a sunk cost. Trusts needed a year or so to merge corporate functions across trusts for economies of scale but they’ve not been given enough time, I suppose that is Streetings fault. I read something the other day that the latest cohort of midwives can’t find jobs as recruitment is frozen but don’t recall if that was regional rather than a national issue.

This is the age of social media. Constant negativity , bile and hate.
Can you think of any party after Labour avoiding the same uproar ?

This isn’t a dig but maybe you notice more because you disagree with it? I don’t think it’s a new phenomenon since 2024. That said we are seeing more and more toxic postings on social media. I can’t believe how openly racist some people are, I thought we left that sort of shit behind 50 plus years ago.

More Dippers shirts unfortunately.

My understanding is the trusts have pretty much total discretion over how/who they recruit. I was in hospital a few weeks ago and had a chat with an ambulance driver. The trust was just in the process of ending the contract with a private ambulance company. That was having the effect of taking 20 ambulances from the resource available.
