She wasn't the first and she won't be the last, it's just irksome when politicians talk the talk but when they get a bit of money in the back pocket greed overcomes them.
Everyone is whiter than white until they're caught, she's basically just the same as most people tbh.
It's the fucking grand standing and treating us like gullible fools which a lot are tbh.
I really don't know how people can spend so much time and effort supporting politicians.

The context of that legal advice is key.

If legal advice was in response to a direction from Rayner saying “please move forward with this transaction and ensure I pay the correct amount of tax and fees” then I think disclosing that would be very powerful.

She’s isn’t a solicitor / legal expert and those of us who aren’t do have to defer to professionals who give paid advice for that very reason.

However, if the legal advice was in response to a direction from Rayner of “please reduce my tax and fees in this transaction as much as possible and use any legal mechanism to do so”, it would be a very different story.

Unless she publishes documents that confirm scenario 1, the public will rightly assume it’s scenario 2 and she’s fucked.
 
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer told MPs he was “very proud to sit alongside” Angela Rayner after she admitted she underpaid stamp duty on a property she bought and had referred herself to the independent ethics adviser.

Maybe he should resign too. Standing up for self confessed fraudster.
 
The fact she sat there saying I wasn’t flipping to avoid tax means that’s exactly what she was doing.

The rest of her story is nothing more than a sob story, looking for a way out.

She is toast, it won’t go away until she has been sacked or resigned and she wouldn’t have it any other way if her past interviews on subjects like this are anything to go by.

In fairness to Angela (although her behaviour displeases me) as per the housing minister i suspect they tend to go early if they know that hanging on will lead to more investigation and more coming out. As you say it offers a way back in and less scrutiny. Perhaps besides the optics Angela has truly done nothing wrong. Dunno. But it looks bad especially as she has been forthright on tax avoidance

To be fair, I do believe her about that. It seems reasonable that you should not have to pay 2nd home stamp duty rates, if you only own one home! I can well imagine she got duff advice initially.

However, what is clear is that she manipulated her assets and disclosures with the specific objective of minimising her tax, and her hypocrisy alone, after previous vehement attacks on people doing similar, does make her position untenable IMO.

Just watching this on the BBC News.
MP’s spending time talking about this, scoring cheap political points. It’s bollocks. The country (so I’m told) is in a mess and that is what they should be talking about and sorting out.
The Rayner business should be dealt with by the party behind closed doors with a statement at the end of it

You could ask why does any politician spend so much time and effort being a politician. Most are highly educated enough to forge careers in their respective fields; why gain a medicine degree to shun a surgical career for politics? Why gain a law degree to shun defence counsel for politics? They could all make fortunes elsewhere but choose to go down the corruptible route. I don't believe any of them go in with good intentions.

We're the real mugs for thinking they're not all birds of the same feather.

Don’t agree with that, I’ve met politicians and local councillors from all political persuasions that have gone into it with the right intentions. Absolutely a lot don’t but they’re aren’t all the same.

So we can all defraud HMRC and have it dealt with behind closed doors then yeah because the country is in a bit of a mess?

Maybe it’s in a mess because of tax dodging fuckers like Raynor who get to decide what the rest of us have to do whilst she ignores it?
