The Labour Government

Starmer has no political judgement at all. Appointing Mandelson was lunacy. He should have fired him days ago. He is totally incompetent. Boris, Liz Truss, and Starmer. How does our system elevate such imbeciles. Starmer has no leadership skills, no innovative ideas, no vision or strategy, and no charisma. FFS what is wrong with the Labour Party?

Yeh yeh, and who exactly will satisfy as PM ? Who can you name that will govern this country perfectly ?

Every single PM will be labelled ‘clueless’ and ‘incompetent’ - there’s no avoiding it, everyone is deeply divided and no single person has a chance to bridge the gap.

They can call Starmer out all they want, but every single one of them knew what Mandelson was like before, during and after his appointment and they also know exactly why he was appointed. Mandelson is a slime ball tasked to work with other slime balls. Whatever Mandelson is, so is Trump, hence he got the job.

I mean, who else were they going to appoint? The Virgin fucking Mary? And does anyone think it makes sense for the British Govt to dismiss Mandelson on the grounds he was pally with Epstein? Might as well just have the Govt announce Trump is a sex nonce. That will go down well.
Are you suggesting it was a smart decision by Starmer to appoint Mandelson?

Starmer and "smart decision" is almost an oxymoron. If there's ever a decision to be made, you can rely on him to either not make a decision, or to make the wrong one. I'm struggling to think of anything at all he's got right.

Perhaps even more surprising than his spectacularly bad judgement, is his complete and utter lack of political nouse. His ability to make decisions that look as bad as conceivably possible, is really quite remarkable. If I didn't know better I'd say he was playing at PM for a laugh to just see how bad he can be before people cotton on that he's only doing it for giggles.

You can’t seriously defend Starmer. We had the worst government in history for 14 years and Starmer has been a disaster so far. It is a systemic failure of our political system. I live in an area which has been abandoned by successive governments from all parties for decades. It is not a left v right issue. The residents have been treated with contempt. We have some of the worst hospitals and schools, a collapsed transport system with the worst train firm in Europe, no police stations, in fact it is pretty much lawless, dirty streets, potholed roads, grooming gangs. We have the bloody lot here. London Labour have not got a fucking clue. Don’t worry I won’t be voting for Farage the snake oil salesman either.

You answer your own question - worst government in history for 14 years and say you can’t seriously defend Starmer for inheriting everything you’ve mentioned about the state of the country - how the hell in a year is he and Labour meant to turn all that around ? It’s going to take far more years but already there is far more investment in infrastructure, schools and buildings, they have bought down waiting lists, building houses, reformed workers rights, tackling migration etc - considering what they’ve inherited, the constant malicious bullshit from social media and the Farage base then I’d say they’ve done ok. Not that anyone’s allowed to say that anymore. Just pure attack and hate on whoever is in power .

Yes unless the Epstein issues has to see him off.
Mandelson has played a key role in our trade negotiations with Trump and keeping the tarrifs down plus other issues.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you have no idea what Mandelson is like. He was sacked for corruption but that is the tip of a very large iceberg. I have a close relative who worked directly with him on overseas trade delegations. Mandelson’s friendship with Epstein was based on shared interests not just a few parties. I don’t care if you believe me. But Starmer and most senior Labour people know all the gory details. Yet Mandelson was given a knighthood and a plum job. We deserve better in this country.

If America didn’t have a repulsive fucker as president then Starmer would never have given him that role.

Are you suggesting it was a smart decision by Starmer to appoint Mandelson?

Yes. It was a fairly obvious appointment and said so at the time. Mandelson knew the Trump world, the people who inhabited it and the way they thought.

Seriously, why do you think he got the job in the first place? Trump had just taken office and was already causing chaos with his tariff nonsense and general behaviour. Putting Mandelson in play to navigate the Trump White House and protect our interests was a no brainer.

The job of the Government is to protect our interests abroad and the US is one of our major trading partners and allies. Having a man in play who knows where a lot of the bodies are buried in Trump world made sense. Mandelson probably buried half of them.

No one is saying Mandelson is a good guy. He wouldn’t have got the job if he was, but I'm not buying this current bout of moralising over him. We hired a dodgy **** to go and play nice with another dodgy **** and no one had any illusions as to our gameplan. Well, obviously some people did judging by the swooning horror at finding out what sort of chap Mandelson is; like it hasn’t been an open secret for nigh on two decades.

How can you defend these people. You astound me in your naivety. We, the people, are sick to death of being told how to live by such politicians as Mandelson. We know what he is like and how he has squirmed his slimy self into such positions of power, aided and abetted by equally slimy characters like Blair and Starmer. How can you defend them. Never run a business, never created jobs for ordinary people, just more jobs for more people to shape our lives. Shame on you, don’t defend the indefensible.

Not sure calling Mandelson a dodgy **** and a sleazeball is defending him exactly, but still who knows, maybe it’s a sign of affection in your world of make believe and rainbow unicorns.

No idea what running a business has to do with anything either. That’s the sort of rationale that got someone like Trump elected. “0h look he bankrupted a casino, we simply must put this man in charge of the economy and have him resurrect economic policies from the Great Depression!”

I can only point out the world we live in and its realities. Mandelson got the US gig because the US elected a convicted felon and sex pest. You obviously find this upsetting, but what can I say? Life sucks.

Anyway, have a good cry and fix yourself some ice cream, it will make you feel better.

It is unpalatable but probably pretty close to the rationale used. I suspect he will be gone as soon as the state visit is over with.

This argument doesn't hold up because even the people who should like Starmer don't think he's doing a good job. It's not just Chippy and Brewster saying he's a **** anymore.

That’s right, it’s all Trump’s fault.

It’s Trump’s fault that Starmer made an absolute tit of himself in what was a dreadful and very damaging performance at PMQs yesterday.

It’s Trump’s fault that Starmer is choosing to inflict significant harm on his political capital and authority by continuing to defend someone who described Epstein as his best friend, and who we now know was still supporting Epstein even when he was facing charges for child sex offences.

It’s Trump’s fault that Starmer is still arguing that all due processes and checks were followed in Mandelson’s appointment, even though we now know that Mandelson was conducting business deals with Epstein after his conviction for child sex offences.

It’s Trump’s fault that Starmer is now choosing to sustain a controversy indirectly linking his government to a convicted paedophile, just a week after having to sack his deputy and launching yet another reset to address the desperate state of both his and his party’s polling.

Yes, it’s all Trump’s fault and nothing to do with Starmer’s poor judgement, his indecision or indeed his complete lack of political instinct.

So you don't think Epstein's buddy Mandelson was a good appointment on the basis of having a good relationship with Epstein's buddy Trump ?

..It’s Trump’s fault that Starmer is now choosing to sustain a controversy indirectly linking his government to a convicted paedophile…

Well, Trump is flying over for a State visit, so I kind of think Starmer is stuck with entertaining a man who is best buddies with a convicted paedophile. I trust you will show that justified anger at us having to entertain a convicted felon and sex pest and take to the streets to protest Trump’s arrival on our shores.

So you don't think Epstein's buddy Mandelson was a good appointment on the basis of having a good relationship with Epstein's buddy Trump ?
Any decision which leads to you having to stand up in the House of Commons and defend someone who knowingly associated and socialised with a convicted paedophile clearly isn’t a good one.

People can come up with as much realpolitik nonsense as they like, but choosing to link your government with a convicted nonce isn’t a smart move for any PM, let alone one under as much pressure as Starmer is.

The fact that Starmer is still claiming that the correct checks and balances were conducted before Mandelson’s appointment, even after the latest revelations, just demonstrates how badly he’s played this.
