The Labour Government

I would say Starmer views antisemitism as the same way Thatcher viewed the unions, a huge risk to position and power. He was in the Shadow cabinet of Corbyn and got a front row seat for how that issue caused huge damage for the party.

I suspect you're right there. I don't know why I keep expecting some form of nuanced moral leadership over political expediency; it's hardly like the environment is conducive to it.

You're right, but at the same time as the profits and margins are rising, don't moan about some increased costs to the business.

Chicken and egg, are profits rising because of inflation or inflation rising because of profits?

Inflations is merely a measurement of what a pound was worth between a given period. If a company made £100 profit last year and inflation was 5% I would expect them to be making £105 profit this year just to stand still. With supermarkets it’s a complex supply chain as well, so many touch points paying higher costs and NI in it. As I say trying to pick the bones of out it is a fools errand.

That's why the margin is important. They're charging at a greater rate than their own costs have gone up. It's not a lot but it's there.

It’s typical Starmer and the Home Secretary shout about antisemitism without actually reviewing the footage of Maccabi fans running riot round Amsterdam. Maybe they don’t know the difference between a Maccabi fan and an Amsterdam pedestrian, they should trust the police force a bit more.

The government LOST their appeal and failed to stop the legal challenge of the Palestine Action ban. That means the Judicial Review will go ahead in November 25-27th.

Not only that, but they won two more grounds to argue the illegality of the ban a huge victory for the 2,100 people charged with terrorism.

I don’t see any coherent strategy for economic growth, reduction in borrowing, control of spending, welfare reform, control of illegal immigration, improvement of public services, or anything else tbh. It’s not the messaging that’s failing is it, it’s just not there. Neither is any meaningful foreign policy plan. We are just in a vacuum.
Wake up Starmer and start to lead for crying out loud.

At least he’s putting student fees up, the bell end…

Really? I don’t think it’s working but I’ve seen their strategy for pretty much all of those. Whether I agree with it is a different matter!

The messaging is pretty obviously failing too.

Most of their time these days is spent trying to extricate themselves from whatever shit they’ve created from their own fuck ups and dishonesty.

Rayner’s sacking, then Mandelson’s sacking and the lies they told about what they knew and when on the new Epstein revelations, and now they’re having to change their story every couple of days about the China spy case because they’ve being telling porkies about that as well.

And in a few weeks they’ll have to concentrate on the Budget, and wringing more money out of a diminishing number of people, simply because Reeves chose to borrow far too much money last year, and of course the pig’s ear they made of their welfare reforms.

It’s very difficult to achieve anything when they spend all day chasing their tail.

I don’t understand this ? What makes you say it’s not coherent ? What would a coherent plan look like. Have we ever had a coherent plan ? Is it possible your browned to have competing policies goals etc

I think there is a strategy but what do you think it is ?

We could get an indication of this at the budget I suppose but I’m disappointed in what the party has delivered thus far. Still 4 years to go though

They may well have great ideas for growth but it’s all pie in the sky with the budget being focused on plugging yet another hole in other words we all pay more (because everyone’s tax is going up not just the high earners) just to stand still.

This constant uncertainty is damaging to confidence, people uncertain with what the budget will bring won’t be spending for Christmas, that’ll further damage a fragile situation. Reeves once in a parliament budget of tax rises hasn’t lasted the year. Unemployment up. Inflation up. Interest rates up. National chains shuttering up. Everyone else’s fault but her own. She is hanging on by the last of her credibility. Both her and Starmer will be gone by June unless a miracle not of their making happens.

It’s all a little depressing really.
