It’s interesting. All I’ve heard from Labour is that the country is in a shit state, so much that all the media have slated them for being so negative. They put stuff in place that will take time to change where we are, and then Reeves comes out and tells us all exactly where the country is, yet people still don’t hear it.

It’s always been like this where the media tell people what to think, and that gentle nudge from what is real and what people want to be real.

Scary thought that people didn’t understand that there was a black hole in the budget, the likes of Truss and Sunak made it so.

In the manifesto and in media interviews with Reeves, Labour has made the following policy announcements:

My reply was in response to the communication question.

As for taxes, no idea what they will do. However, in my opinion, I’d like to see a full reform of taxes, not just fiddling at the edges. The country is in a total mess and we either accept it and move on, or want to change that and pay for it.

If they can do this it will go a long way to keeping out Reform.
I know these measures are not to everyone's taste but for me its about keeping the country together and stopping the (negative) issues that immigration in all its flavours is causing.

I don’t believe anyone in politics at present has the capability to arrest the UKs decline. Certainly not the current Labour government, the Tories or Reform.

I would add that if the current strategy is to achieve confidence, investment and growth then constantly telling everyone what a shit show we are is an interesting way of encouraging that.

There is a certain inevitability to it I feel.

Reeves is going to get pelters but the truth is we are in the shit as a nation and that’s been ingrained since Covid, and arguably austerity. It’s going to have to be painful.

Austerity was the medicine that was supposed to cure the nations ills. This is going to be more of the same I fear.
 
I also think the ECHR probably needs looking at, in terms of immigration and asylum. It needs to adapt. It would be a fucking tragedy if we left it, and I hope lessons will be learnt from Brexit in Europe about EU intransigence (rightly or wrongly) being the catalyst for the Brexit referendum. I feel this would neutralise most of the voices who are calling for us to pull out.

This challenging situation is best managed in pan-European and collaborative way.

She may well be but will she get support for similar rules from the Labour rank and file? I have been saying for years we could do worse than learn from the Scandinavian countries. They seem to be able to strike a good balance between socially fair policies, looking after their economies and applying common sense.

And that’s where I see the narrative change, admitting to all who want to listen, that we have been in a period of decline and neglect and that tough decisions need to be taken.

For me, the recent narrative is welcome, giving understanding of where we are. And, as we’re in the Labour thread, they need to now stop blaming other parties and get on with the job in hand.

One of our problems remains the economic fallout from Brexit. Labour had quite a bit of skin in the game for that catastrophe. Neither are global economic conditions all the fault of the Tories. They need to stop blaming each other and getting on addressing the problems. No government will ever make headway if they are guided by what plays well in our dishonest right wing media.

Totally agree. The media are flaming the situation rather than being supportive.

If you remember 12 months ago, the then justice secretary Sabeena Mahmoud interfered with the release program by changing the law on early release from prison ? Your question “how has this government caused the spike” ?

The current government have created the conditions for confusion in the prison system by announcing even earlier release dates of prisoners who then end up re-offending, plus adding to the burden of the justice system by making 2,100 extra PA terrorists are awaiting trial and people locked up for minor comments online.

Sabeena Mahmoud is to blame.
