The Labour Government

We have evidence that what you have just said simply isn’t true nor the case.

As of June 2025 there was 1.26 million non UK born people claiming universal credits so how does their immigration benefit?
How many are working in low paid jobs that benefit the economy and life generally?

Revealing that you would say that.

In the year ending June 2025, the UK recorded 111,084 people (main applicants + dependants) claiming asylum.

For the same period, nationals of Angola - a Christian country - made 27 asylum applications (0.02% of total).

And yet for Afghanistan - a Muslim country - there were 6,400 Afghanistanies arriving on small boats arrivals: 30,000+ of them since 2021.

Mahmood felt it appropriate to single out Angola, but not Afghanistan, and you think I've lost it? Ironic.

If they don’t take action on migration = ‘they’re spineless and don’t have a clue, we want our country back’’

If they do take action of migration = All because of Reform proposals.
The only reason they are being seen to do something after 18 mths is because they are tanking in the polls and they know immigration is the biggest bone of contention with the public. They don't want to take these steps otherwise they would have done it before.

As soon as they come into power, they went after the gangs, cracked down on illegal workers, raided shops, made record arrests on illegals, bought forward border bills, made record deportations and made migration/return deals with Vietnam, Iraq and France all in a year before these latest proposals.

Is no-one else raising even an eyebrow at Shabana "my religion is the most Important thing in my life" Mahmood, our Muslim home secretary announcing potential visa restrictions on Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Namibia - all of which are Christian countries and from none of which are there many illegal immigrants.

Whereas she made no such anouncements relating to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria etc from which we have tens of thousands of illegal immigrants. And coincidentally these happen to be Muslim countries?

Nothing to see here? I'm sure it's just coincidence.
It's advisable to not allow facebook memes to influence your political thinking.

And all that really worked didn't it.

You're cheering that Labour are putting out the fire that they started?

Odd flex, but okay.
They aren't even putting out the fire. You put up employers' NI, inflation (rate of price increase, remember) goes up. A year later, no further NI increase and the rate of price increase comes down. The permanently higher prices are just working their way through the system. It's not like we are having negative inflation and the prices are actually falling. We are paying more, forever, thanks to the last budget.

This report makes poor reading for the Labour Government. It does demonstrates how we don't have politicians that are smart enough, focused enough, determined enough to actually deliver on their promises and that goes for Labour, SNP and Tories

No, it takes time. something many gave the Tories 14 years without putting up flags and painting roundabouts. Labour have had a year and made far more progress, many bills still going through parliament.
If all those things you mentioned were making the slightest difference they wouldn't have been any chance of them making the proposals they have done this week. They and the public know they have failed miserably and are now forced to take up a more reform like stance on the subject.

So none of that has made a difference?

I don't recall many Angolans fighting alongside the coalition troops against the taliban.

Anyone who voted Labour and planned to switch to reform because the asylum crisis and economy wasn't fixed in 11 months into a 5 year term (a) was probably not a Labour voter so much as an anti-tory voter and (b) Isn't going to come back because of this. They'll just side with reform on the next wedge issue, and again for the next 4 years.

A fair point but if we cast our mind back 25-35% of Labour voters voted for Brexit. We’re frequently told on here that anyone who voted for Brexit did so because they didn’t like foreigners.

I guess voters don’t fit neatly in to boxes. Plenty of Tory voters don’t give two shits about immigration and plenty of Labour voters do. Their votes are likely cast on what they see as the most important thing to them and which party matches that rather than fully agreeing with a lot of the ideology.

To your point I would say if you see immigration as the single most important thing to fix you’re probably attracted to reform - and maybe this weeks announcement won’t change that, we will have to wait for the polls to tell us in the coming weeks if we see reform start to slide.
