The Labour Government

After 14 years of Tory right wing budgets and a Brexit that boosted our economy, stopped the boats and made us get our country and laws back - you’re hurt by this one budget? Strange. You should be living the life of luxery by now. What happened.
He has to blame someone

I think the only people easily fooled will be those who think that even if their income doesn't increase they'll pay more income tax. They'll be fooled by all those saying it's a tax increase.

Whether it's a good idea is another matter.
Sorry no one is falling for that.

It was aimed at people who say immigration is depressing wages and we should get sick people to go out to work in the fields and care homes. (Not even healthy Brits fancy those jobs.)

No Irish immigration would have meant Britain would have fewer canals, fewer railways.

I was sat there thinking, but surely Vic knows the workhouse poor were in no position to do the work and the Irish were favoured because of their mobility etc etc!

I think I possibly need to take a break from here!

Not really true though, is it?

Workers will still end up paying more tax if their income is frozen or even declines in real terms, so they’ll still be worse off. It’s the whole purpose of freezing thresholds, funnily enough.

Meanwhile, if you’re on benefits, you don’t have to worry about that as Labour will increase them in real terms. Have another couple of kids and you’re really on to a winner.

So you mean pensioners, working people on poor wages, the disabled unable to work, people getting help with council tax, anyone getting child benefit, anyone getting free school meals, anyone getting free prescriptions.....need I go on?

If only we weren't upto £90bn a year worse off.

Some common sense. I think I am going mad sometimes when I listen to the two tribes. It seems obvious that we are still stuck in the days of empire with the House of Lords and all the fancy dress. Can’t they see what’s coming down the road. Most Civil Service jobs will be replaced by AI, most legal jobs, most generalist doctors like GPs will go as well as medicine becomes led by genetics. Where is the vision and leadership for a new Uk.
I searched the main manifestoes before the last election, and there was scant mention of AI from the main parties, beyond the usual platitudes. There was more mention now in the budget, but again it's still couched in terms of 'leading' but showing little appreciation of what lies just round the corner for everyone. Youth unemployment should already be a flashing light, and major companies around the world are announcing huge lay offs and no longer recruiting to any great extent. Meanwhile, none of the established parties appear imaginative enough to set out a radical vision for now, let alone for the next thirty years.

Spot on. The tribes are still fighting the battles of 60 years ago. The fake narrative from Starmer is we are leading the world on AI. It is a lie. It is just the usual British exceptionalism. We have the worst business infrastructure of any so-called advance nation and a chronic skills shortage. No vision, no leadership, no strategy, No chance.

Reeves should have jumped over to Badenoch and twatted fuck out of her. Badenoch is an abusive Tory cowbag.

Yeah that's me being abusive.
I think the fact that so many Labour supporters are complaining about Badenoch's speech it suggests that it was very effective and would have gone down very well with her supporters. If the target was Farage or Badenoch or Trump or someone else you do not like would that speech have been ok with you or would you still be complaining it was over the top?

Badenoch’s speech went down well with the clowns in the Commons. Oh how they laughed before they adjourned to the subsidised bars and restaurants with their media pals. She has worse leadership skills and even less vision than Starmer. They are taking us all for fools.

Good post. It's the same with the 'Green' revolution. Where are the jobs? They all seem to be in China and we seem to have missed the bus (made in China also). Debate is good but sooner or later you need the do'ers to take control and F***ing do something. Stating platitudes constantly ( I want peace, justice, water, quality of life, social justice ) does not make you a good person, DOING good does.

Do you know me boss?

I wouldn't argue with that, my point is that ALL sides seem to enjoy these personal eviscerations of their political opponents whilst suddenly turning into Mother Theresa when they are the victim of the evisceration. I'm not a Starmer fan but he is the only one who actually targetted the policy rather than the person.

I suspect you're right that the Badenoch supporters may have appreciated it.

Whether the more non-aligned people, or less convinced Conservative voters is more important. I think that many will have found it awkward and uncomfortable, and a lot not really directed at the budget, but just unloading at Reeves.

Watching the Commons on TV makes me cringe. It is an outdated and increasingly irrelevant institution, The media, especially the lobby group, are part of the problem. It is all fiddling while Rome burns.
