Margaret Beckett led the Labour party after the death of John Smith.

So the answer is Yes, Labour has had a female leader.

I know Beckett did and Harmen has but both only as a temporary , they we're not elected as Leader.

You never said anything about being elected.

Beckett was elected Deputy leader, which meant if anything happened to the leader she took over. She was therefore leader until a new election could take place. So my answer is correct.

Perhaps you should ask better questions ;)

Honestly don't see how this is at all relevant?

It's just a random question , i'm not asking along party lines , just wondered why they've never had a female leader and thought i'd ask for other peoples thoughts.
Fair enough, I just assumed that knowing this forum as I do it would be a swipe at the party itself. I'll weigh in with the thought that there have never been any strong women candidates for the position - at the 2010 leadership election the only woman standing was Diane Abbott. My least preferred candidate for the job not because of her gender, but because she simply was not as good a candidate as any of the others.

I think Yvette Cooper will be the next Labour leader.

She constitently tops Labour party polls md more importantly for her she isnt her husband.

This is what happens when the Labour Party officials get near women ... most of em' just can't take the heat , depressingly just sink to their knees , and start acting like the grovellin' little upstarts that they really are ......

of the ones that DO manage to remain standing , well they just mutter complete gobbledegook and balderdash into the bored womens ears .... like the chap on this picture's doing!
