The Labour Party

If you voted to leave and still want to leave then dont vote fucking labour!
I feel the message is more "if you voted to leave, know that this party does not support you, but if you are still adamant, we'll get a deal that we ourselves won't like or support, but if you want to vote for it, go ahead."

So loooks like a strictly remain mandate is going to be rejected.

But I keep hearing that the leadership and membership are at odds over brexit as 99% or members are pro remain, or so it is peddled by the media.

I would not read too much into this - it is a vote taken in the hall compiled with block Union votes. Corbyn has most of the Unions in his pocket and will be doing all he can to stuff the hall. Even then he will only win a small majority in favor of a 2nd Ref as opposed to a 2nd ref where they back remain. It is still inching toward remain - just with less pace.

If your not going to go all out remain then I actually think his position is sensible (Note; I'm a big Corbyn hatter). If you are having a 2nd ref then what goes on the ballot is critical to give it legitimacy. If they do win I would expect significant effort to make it a genuinely credible leave option and one that can be delivered and we can live with.

Much like May the remainer, Kier's deal will not be a deal, it will be a stitch up.

Corbyn is being effectively sidelined here on brexit and Labour are remain.

Corbyn, the long term champion of leaving, shackled by members of his own party.

I almost feel sorry for him. almost

I think you will find that the stitch up is working the other way and that even though Labour membership is ~80% remain the party will some how manage to avouid voting for an unambiguous remain position.

We will find out soon enough.

Labour is remain.

So Labour have rejected a campaign to remain?

This party, man. WHat does it want!?

My mate lives in Cerro uro, we go in Bar Sangria and Bar Cuelho mostly. But I did watch a game in Paderne when we beat Chelsea 6-0, my mate is a Chelsea fan. I am over again in November for a couple of days. Getting the train from Lisbon. So I don't live there, but I have been over 4 times this year. I love the people and the place. My mate loves it, he has no complaints although the last petrol strike left him a bit short. My pal is very left wing though, makes me look like a Tory :))

Ah yes the petrol strikes that was good fun for a few weeks - they've released an app over here now so you can keep up with all the strike dates in different sectors :-) Not familiar with Cerro Do Urro ... Great restaurant on the road in that direction from Paderne which is restaurante Veneza based in a wine cellar - you won't regret it - great rabbit and shell fish...

I actually think this is there best option for the election. This outcome is not the one that Tory strategists would have wanted. A lot of labor voters will not be all consumed on brexit and if you offer people an alternative to no deal that will go down well, support for no deal is very low, and a chance to have a 2nd ref then many wavering voters will take that over BoJo or Farage's hard line view. The hard liners were never going to vote labour anyway.

How the remainers react is of more concern and i think if we get to a second ref then leave is dead - tactical remain voters will accept this. I still rate Corbyn as one of the worst political leaders of all time but given where Labour are this is there best approach to the election.

Anyone flirting with the idea of voting Labour, what a lovely quote this is, from the BBC this afternoon.

Manuel Cortes, the general secretary of the TSSA, said his union will back calls for Labour to support remain in the election.

"We are an independent trade union, we tell the Labour Party what to do, it's not the other way round," he said.

1974 strikes anyone? What a vote winner that will be.
