The Labour Party

Up 20 points in the polls, excellent local elections and Tory MPs now seeking ‘safe harbour‘ with Labour. I could be wrong, but not seeing the downside here :)

Erm, okay, you don't see the downside with lunatics like Elphicke sliding over and our Keith drooling over it whilst people like Diane Abbott, who have fought for the proper Labour principles her whole life aren't welcomed?

You mean you let others do the choosing for you. My, aren’t you precious.

No, what is this fantasy world you have invented where you pick a party and they have power.
It's amazing looking at the polls, results in recent local elections and the tremendous FPTP system that individuals sit there and think I must pick a side here.

Fuck me that's funny.

If Gove , Lee Anderson and Suella Braverman suddenly started wearing Labour rosettes Bob would find a reason to support them.

After all if he doesn't vote for them it means the Tories get in again. In his head anyhow.

Yes we do have people that stupid and morally vacuous in the world.

Welcome to politics, or as is currently the case, welcome to successful politics. No leader of the opposition is going to refuse a defecting Govt MP, because to voters it emphasises a Govt that is collapsing. The more MPs that defect, the quicker it collapses and the more damage is done. Defectors will always receive a warm welcome - especially if that defector will be gone in a few months time.

Starmer is using Elphicke, who in turn is using Starmer to voice her grievances about Sunak. In short, they are friends with political benefits.

Yeah, pick a side and either vote for that side or tactically to assist your side.

So, pick a side, precious.

Depends upon what you define as success I suppose and who is benefitting from this "success"

Keith and his new found right wing friends "winning" would be deemed as a success for him, but for those needing a true Labour party - not so much.

The country and its citizens hopefully.

The Labour Party is a political party that needs to win votes and thereby power to have any meaning. Running it as a members private club where only those who subscribe to a purity test are welcome has, to be honest, been of fuck all use to this country.

So, how about we think about the welfare of the country for a change, given we are in a bit of a mess, and realise Labour needs to attract a broad swathe of the people and not just a few.

Ah, the old "We have to get in power first then change things" line.

I fail to see how two parties, with interchangeable MPs whose core beliefs are as one, is of any benefit to the country and its citizens.

Its shouldn't be a private club I agree but fucking hell there has to be some parameters.

If labour kept it's name but decided to steal it's manifesto from Britain First would you still be happy they won?

This isn’t what is happening though. They don’t want Elphicke for anything barring being able to highlight that one of the Tories most vocal disciples of their immigration policy has lost faith in their ability to control it in her Dover constituency.

In the past couple of weeks, a Doctor has defected, telling the electorate that the Tories are destroying the NHS and now we have the Immigration version in the MP for Dover running out of faith in Tory policy. This will become important when election campaigning starts in earnest.

They‘ll both sit quietly in the commons until the election finally happens and then fade away as they are not standing again.

They didn't need to do that though. Also, the Doc will have a job advising Labour on the NHS after the election.

It’s politics though. They’re trying to get as many votes from as many different people as possible.

Soundbytes around the Tories can’t even convince their own MPs that they are the party to trust will be huge and cutting in the campaigning.

It won't assist anyone though you daft donk, anyhow the guy who has been blubbing like a baby for 10 years calling someone precious. Oh Bob I think you're best staying in your GDP thread, bless.

There core beliefs are not as one. This is just dumb and comes across as ‘I’m not getting what I want, so I’m taking my ball home and sod everyone else.’

We are in the shit, in part because the Labour Party focussed inward and stopped listening to the public. Labour has to listen. The Tories stopped listening and look where it’s getting them.

It isn’t all about you and your feelings. To be fair it isn’t about mine either :)

Well, they aren’t so whats your fucking point?
I think there is an acceptance that Labour needed to move in a broader more centrist direction to gain power, but it should still be a broad and centrist labour party. What we seem to have is basically a relaunch of the Cameron/Osbourne government with red rosettes instead of blue.
