The Labour Party

Cloud cuckoo land as per usual from Stramer on the boats just as I thought, they have no plan, the tories have a flawed plan which will last until they lose.
If the French don't cooperate - which they don't then there is no plan
There needs to be a massive deterrent
Also, just to be clear, these are not asylum seekers, they ILLEGAL ECONOMIC MIGRANTS and should be returned to wherever they come from immediately.
I won't be fucking bothering voting yet again. Absolute jokers the lot of them.

I don't understand - increasing the number of resources processing people and setting up a dedicated returns unit to send back people who fail their asylum claims seems pretty close to what you're asking for? They don't need France to cooperate for that to work, but if they do then that'll be a bonus. I don't see the functional difference between what you want and what Labour are saying they're going to do. It's much closer than what Suank is doing. Do you want failed applicants to be sent back or not?

Under the Tories, the number of failed claimants being returned has dropped by 40%. They are so myopically focused on this "massive deterrent" which is quite provably not a deterrent as the number of boat crossings has continued to increase - to the extent that they are just allowing failed claimants to stay in the country indefinitely. You can say that's a plan, but it's quite demonstrably a plan that's not working.

I wouldn’t expect Reeves to be spending it just yet ;) she would want more evidence of real growth for sure and probably wouldn’t want to come out and say now the economy is doing well under the Tories we can…. ahead of a GE, she’ll naturally want to keep focus on the negatives!!!

Have Labour actually come out with any firm plans for EU relations? Other than their default saying of being better. Genuine question. On that topic I was a bit surprised/ disappointed that we dismissed the EU proposal for movement of a younger age cohort, it didn’t appear there was any negotiation for specific exclusions or a “quid pro quo” but rather a blanket no from us. Perhaps that can be revisited.

Absolutely no firm plans. Any firm or positive or firm plans will trigger weeks of Brexit betrayal headlines and endless interviews and comment about Brexit. No one in Labour wants to talk about Brexit or the EU. Same goes for the public. It’s been nothing but a shitshow and a national embarrassment. No one will thank Labour for mentioning it.

Instead, we will pretend it didn’t really happen and improve things and relations on the QT. It is the British way.

The issue is too polarised and toxic for any political party to hang it's hat on. We'll tiptoe back to a sensible position that if spoken of openly would be too Brexity for some idiots and too remain for the other idiots. I honestly think global shitness has now marginalised both ends of the Brexit debate which now seems petty.

Difficult to see how Reeves could have got it more wrong regarding the GDP figures released this morning.

Disputing whether the economy was improving and turning a corner was a silly move given the prospects for a good Q1 GDP figure, and doing this ahead of the Bank of England meeting - when key Bank officials had been making more optimistic noises - was especially poor timing.

She’s undoubtedly been poorly advised, but you have to question her instincts as well.
She's being advised by a former Tory MP.

Tories done well on immigration, can you tell me how they have solved it?

Small boats stopped?

Labour issues rising?

Tories know they are going to lose and they will play dirty to try and stop the incoming gubbing at the ballot box.

Sadly labour party officials seem happy to try and help them stay the opposition party.

Would be fascinating change in the political landscape if the lib Dems became official opposition.

It would take some huge change for the Lib Dems to overtake the Tories. What do you think Labour has in their power to do about it?

They are almost certainly already have an informal pact with them for the General Election, so unless the Lib Dems want to target the right wing vote, surely there's not much more they could do?

They could if they agreed to tactical voting.

Sadly I can't see both parties agreeing to stand down candidates where the other has more chance of taking the seat.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to wipe the bastards out.

However, the two main parties would prefer to keep the status quo as that benefits both under FPTP!

There's almost certainly an informal pact to not compete in target seats, but I don't think it stacks up that they could get anywhere near overtaking the Tories.

By standing down candidates, you also water down what each party stands for. Just one example is that there will be plenty of voters who might vote Lib Dem against the Tories, but if they know Labour support the Lib Dems, they won't vote for what is effectively Lib Dem/Labour candidate.

The theory that there are Tories, and the Greens/Lib Dems/Labour/SNP are all on the opposite side, doesn't stack up when you look at voter migration between elections. A progressive alliance of voters, that adds all those parties votes together simply doesn't exist. I suspect a Lab/Lib Dem pact is likely to bump up the Tory vote, and so not make much difference compared to informal tactical voting.

Christ, I'm no fan of Natalie Elphicke, but that's desperate stuff.
Not perhaps as desperate as the latest "revelation" about her trying to get political intervention in her husband's trial date, four years ago. Journalists' questions should be, "how many other Tory MPs have done things wrong that you've suppressed until they defect?" and "are you using dirt on any other MPs to stop them defecting?"

I understand the positive aspects of the defection of this Elphicke woman.
And Cameron's words of a "legacy of betrayal" are ridiculous. What about the "legacy of out and out sleaze??" And why only now has the alleged lobbying been made public? Don't answer....we all know why

But that's my point....Labour should never have agreed to her joining them.
