I think dalglish has done okay to be fair, they play decent football, probably be in a cup final and have been unlucky with missed chances.They remind me of our first season of heavy spending and remember we didnt achieve 4th after all that money.
I don't buy that one bit, they have been heavy spending for years, it was only a few years ago they were up in the mix, they made a huge mistake appointing Wroy and even bigger one appointing a manager who in the eyes of most of their supporters is one step away from a living deity, when the truth is he is not up to it
I think Benitez was the first mistake, but got so much time due to one fluky Champions League comeback and the same in the FA Cup.
Managed to fuck up the league, piss of Alonso and Masch, not manage Torres's fitness properly, waste bundles of cash.
5th in his first season, the Luis Garcia non-goal to knock out Chelsea in the CL, then the flukey final. Sold Owen and bought Cisse and Morientes for £21m combined, also bought Josemi and Nunez(who lol), and succeeded with Alonso & Garcia.
The following season he bought Reina and Agger(good), Crouch and Sissoko, then bought in Kromkamp, Zenden and Fowler(off us lol) on frees. About £35m spent there.
Following season he bought in Aurelio, Pennant and Bellamy(how that worked), Arbeloa(good but then got sold), Dirk Kuyt, who's been steady, and a couple of others, spent about £26m, sold off the brilliant Morientes, Kromkamp, Cheyrou, Traore, then Warnock for £1.5m and Kirkland.
Then it was the arrival of Torres, Babel(ha), Lucas(who's eventually shown quality), Skrtel and Mascherano, with a couple of others. About £65m spent. Out went Bellamy, Garcia(at a loss), Gonzalez, Cisse and Sissoko.
Then in came Dossena, Riera, N'Gog, Cavalieri and Robbie Keane, out went Carson, Crouch, Finnan, Guthrie, Kewell, Riise and Keane. Spent £38.5m.
His final season, he bought Aquilani, Johnson and Kyrgiakos and signed Maxi Rodriguez. Sold Alonso, Arbeloa, Dossena and Voronin. Spent £40m.
So in those years he managed to spend(not net, just what he actually spent) about £230m, yet they got a lucky CL and an FA Cup for all that, not to add the £25m spent by Hodgson and the £110m Dalglish has spent give or take, which makes it £365m.
Hart-800k, Richards-Free, Kompany-7m, Lescott-24m, Clichy-7m, Barry-14m, Yaya-19.5m, Silva-24m, Nasri-24m, Milner-16m, Balotelli-21.5m, Aguero-38m.
=195.8m.
Subs: Panty-Loan, Zaba-5m, Kolarov-16m, Kolo-14m, NDJ-18m, AJ-7m, Dzeko-27m.
Total=£282.8m.
So you could add in Tevez, Robinho and Adebayor and you'd only need to spend 800k in transfer fees to cover it using the money Liverpool have spent.
