Walking past the Lower Turks Head and there is a load scaffolding up and a sign on it saying it will open soon, with 6 cask ales. Had a quick check on line and Pubs of Manchester on Twatter says it should be open in August.

Done a bit more digging and apparently it will be "a total revamp, cask ales, premium beer & lager, food & accomodation"

I think they may be knocking into the videos & mags shop next door as it is closing down.

Come on, this thread is just a front for your real reason for visiting the area ;)

I seem to recall apartments were made above the pub??

Yeah, its not so much a refurb and a brand new fit out, as the internals of the pub didn't exist any more as it was just a shell - not even any toilets.

Total new bars on ground & first floor - also a great beer garden at the back of the video store at first floor level - a real sun trap in the afternoons - Book store is also part of the new development with bar area on ground floor & kitchens & ladies toilets at first floor.
Some nice hotel rooms on the upper levels as well.

6th of August is a push but fingers crossed ( oh and one of the owners is a season ticket Holder at City ;) )

Was this the Joey Holts pub ? if so I hope they are not ruining a great boozer by ripping everything out.

It had been ripped out years and years ago - it was a shell - even some of the floors were missing - there was no bar and no toilets just bare walls and an empty space.

The new scheme is not modern, its a lot of reclaimed joinery etc - even the bar is reclaimed - the whole scheme is traditional but classy

Are you a City season ticket holder by any chance?

OK Cheers, I am obviously thinking of another one that I have visited a few times before a home match.

You may be getting mixed up with the Hare and Hounds, a great Holts pub on shude hill.

Used to go in the Turks head in the early 80's when I worked in an office nearby, it was OK then, good luck to the owners.

So glad to hear this lovely old place is being resurrected.....Told my missus's company to get into it YEARS ago, but they didn't think it was a 'good location'......my arse.

Look forward to going in it...
