OK Cheers, I am obviously thinking of another one that I have visited a few times before a home match.
You may be getting mixed up with the Hare and Hounds, a great Holts pub on shude hill.
It is as well, they wont be happy with the Turks competition though

Disagree...if it brings more trade into the immediate area, they will benefit too...

It will be great to sit there and be offered all sort of cut price goods from the clientele coming to and fro from market street.
I was once offered a dress in The Swan With Two Necks, it was only a size 8 though, bit small for me at the time!

Went in there in about 1988 proper spit and sawdust boozer, upright piano to the right of the bar that pissed up thought he could bash a tune out on, he couldn't, we got chucked out, probably moved on to the Sportsman downstairs somewhere on Market Street, happy days!

Yeah, its not so much a refurb and a brand new fit out, as the internals of the pub didn't exist any more as it was just a shell - not even any toilets.

Total new bars on ground & first floor - also a great beer garden at the back of the video store at first floor level - a real sun trap in the afternoons - Book store is also part of the new development with bar area on ground floor & kitchens & ladies toilets at first floor.
Some nice hotel rooms on the upper levels as well.

6th of August is a push but fingers crossed ( oh and one of the owners is a season ticket Holder at City ;) )

Good luck. Hope it's a huge success.

Now opening to the public - Friday 16th August - definitely . Still a lot if work to do but agreed this morning.

Will be a great place for a pre- match drink as tram stop to the ground is just over the road.

Iwouldnt wear colours in a new boozer these days, you know how sniffy these landlords get, i will bet for first few weeks there will be doormen on as well, still sounds good though

It had been ripped out years and years ago - it was a shell - even some of the floors were missing - there was no bar and no toilets just bare walls and an empty space.

The new scheme is not modern, its a lot of reclaimed joinery etc - even the bar is reclaimed - the whole scheme is traditional but classy

OK Cheers, I am obviously thinking of another one that I have visited a few times before a home match.

Don't want to split hairs BUT the H&H isn't really a Holts' pub. It sells Holts' bitter as a permanent guest ale but isn't part of the Joey's empire so the sublime Crystal and Diamond Lagers are unavailable there. ;)

The Turks Head was last open about 88/89 I think then the landlord (Norman) got sick I heard.

Is it going to be a proper pub or a "vinatge urban kooky experience" for the hipsters of the NQ?

The barmaid that pulled the very last pint in the "old" Lower Turks Head circa 1990, will be pulling the very first pint in the "new" Lower Turks Head - 23 years later - she is older but a now a lot wiser :)

Was she on extended gardening leave

Slight hitch with the new feature staircase installation - opening delayed for The Lower Turks Head & Scuttlers bar - looking more like 21st August - "disappointed" is an understatement .

Used to go in turks head, but preferred the castle and falcon opposite it , which was a great down to earth boozer with good beer

Not the Lower Turks Head, but just saw a tweet that the owners of the Castle Hotel are taking over the Gulliver's Pub across from them, with a look at a sort of grand reopening for early September. Good news by me, the Castle is probably my favourite pub in Manchester for a drink and the juke box is second to none.
