Just been looking on line for info on the houses bring built there, I thought they was built some time ago to be honest,
Looking through the plots , all the house types have names like the Allison, the Doyle, the Oakes , the Corrigan, the Lee, the Rosler , few others White, Coleman then a set of houses called the Matilda ??
Did we have a player called Matilda any time ..

Here: http://prospectgb.com/matilda-inspires-fund-raising-initiative/

EDIT: I didn't mean my post to sound blunt. Just felt the article said it far better than I could.

A lot of houses and flats were built on the land a good few years ago but then a large area of the land remained undeveloped as well. Until now.

Ok cheers , seems mental to start to build a new estate then just leave it half finished, not nice for the new residents , guess it was something to do with the market crash why they never finished...

Anyway strange to have a set of houses called the Matilda's in there amongst a load of sets of houses relating to city players names. ( now no why thanks to dobobobo

Yeah the original developers went 'under' by all accounts. It's certainly taken a while for someone else to continue the project.

Are they still doing that thing they talked of a year or two back, where the roads will be painted sky blue and named after former City players?

I'm pretty sure that I didn't dream that...

Edit: no I didn't: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-18129071" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ma ... r-18129071</a>

Took a visit back to our former ground today and was really pleasantly surprised to see it looks as though the jobs finally getting finished, as the barren land that has stood undeveloped for years is now finally having houses and flats built on it. Didn't get any pictures before anyone says it but got chatting to a fella on the site who told me someone had been today as they are sorting out the memorial that will stand on the spot of the Maine Road centre circle. Not the most interesting news on here at the minute but just an update if anyone's interested.
Had a drive past myself last week.

Felt like crying to be honest
Agreed. Paid a quick visit when I was over for the Hull game at the start of the season. I found it depressing and spirit crushing to be honest.

I went past a fortnight ago. I'd not been back since the last game at Maine Road and I found myself really down for a couple of hours after. I know you can't stand still and we had to move to progress but I really miss the old place. It was also sad seeing all the old boozers no longer there. I must have downed a few pints in most of them and they've nearly all gone.
All in all a really depressing visit. I don't think I'll be going back.

Cool. No worries. I thought it had all finished, so i've learnt a few things myself. I also didn't know about the Matilda house till you mentioned it.

Way before my time, but I think the Clarke house is in reference to Roy Clarke. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Clarke_(footballer)
(Another thing I have learnt tonight. I would be lost without Google.)

Problem is it was a great ground but I couldn't live there. It's an absolute dive. The new houses/flats could be luxurious mansions but unless they are guarded by tanks I wouldn't want to live in one of them!

I would feel like the bait in a massive human mousetrap!

Me too , thanks.. Great fact about him playing in three different divisions in three consecutive matches on that wiki link ...

It lost its appeal to me once Swales started 'reconstructing' the stadium. I will forgive him for rebuilding the old Scoreboard End but I can't forgive him for making it seated in its second year. And I can't forgive him for letting the old Platt Lane Stand become a dilapidated wreck, only to be replaced by the cheap and shoddy Umbro Stand.

If readers look at today's MUEN, there is an interesting Pathe Newsreel of a cup tie from 1956 when we played Everton, winning 2-1. Here was Maine Road before the Scoreboard End, the Kippax and the Platt Lane End were covered, and there was a crowd of over 76,000 at the game.
