The Manchester Evening News

As a resident of Bournemouth, I don’t tend to follow the MEN, but after the last couple of weeks I was somewhat shocked how anti-City the local rag is these days. They seem to be so biased towards the Salford team. Do they really seem to want to alienate a huge proportion of their potential readers? Mods might wish to transfer this to the media thread, but I think this deserves a discussion of it’s own.
It's not a local paper, it's the Manchester edition of the Mirror. It is full of celeb gossip, national news, bits from other Reach regional titles such as the Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail etc. They have a few kids as local 'reporters' on buttons and that's it.

I was reading an article on how Reach currently works the other day. Everything is based on the number of clicks every article gets and they have switched to Google rather than Facebook. What doesn't get many clicks is news, politics and business content. The most popular articles are about the Royal Family, celebrity gossip, United transfer stories and, bizarrely, stories about Dunelm products. One of the most successful articles recently was about a Dunelm clothes dryer that 'people couldn't live without'. WTF!!

Articles / stories have to gain at least 24k clicks and each reporter has been tasked with knocking out 8 per shift. To say it's shite is a total understatement.

So I’m in the Us and when I wanted to read more about City a few years ago it would always come up. I always laugh because there is always the most horrifying crime story in the front page - like you almost can’t believe it’s real. And I was always surprised about their City coverage because 1) they didn’t seem to like City and 2) they seem to weirdly play favorites with certain players. 3) sometimes I felt like I might know more than they did about City. And am a woman in the US - the bar is pretty low!!
