The Manchester Evening News

Living in Oz I used to read it but it's so anti City now I gave up, I don't understand how them pissing off the blue half of the city works for them.

One of those anomalies in life I never understand.

I still click go on the app version every so often to check out local stories to my area. Usually if I see a load of police cars parked up somewhere or a pub with all its windows out through.

It’s still good for local stuff like that. Don’t really bother with the sport section. I’m not really arsed reading about City anyway.

The only news I’m interested in, is the team news an hour or so before the game.

As a resident of Bournemouth, I don’t tend to follow the MEN, but after the last couple of weeks I was somewhat shocked how anti-City the local rag is these days. They seem to be so biased towards the Salford team. Do they really seem to want to alienate a huge proportion of their potential readers? Mods might wish to transfer this to the media thread, but I think this deserves a discussion of it’s own.
Shock!

Not just me then! Thanks everyone, the Bournemouth Echo is still full of last Saturday’s result against us, but equally incompetent at reporting local news

It's not a local paper, it's the Manchester edition of the Mirror. It is full of celeb gossip, national news, bits from other Reach regional titles such as the Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail etc. They have a few kids as local 'reporters' on buttons and that's it.

I was reading an article on how Reach currently works the other day. Everything is based on the number of clicks every article gets and they have switched to Google rather than Facebook. What doesn't get many clicks is news, politics and business content. The most popular articles are about the Royal Family, celebrity gossip, United transfer stories and, bizarrely, stories about Dunelm products. One of the most successful articles recently was about a Dunelm clothes dryer that 'people couldn't live without'. WTF!!

Articles / stories have to gain at least 24k clicks and each reporter has been tasked with knocking out 8 per shift. To say it's shite is a total understatement.
Have you got a link to that clothes dryer ???

My old dad was a printer at the Mail and believed it was a watertight job, because he said: "People will aways have a bit of change in their pocket to buy a paper."
How many people even carry change with them these days!? The Grauniad costs £2.00, Cheaper than a pint, but not small change...
As for the MUEN, it's annoyed me for over 40 years that its house style is to put City before United i.e. "City and United." It's petty I know, but how petty would you have to be to come up with such a convention in the first place?
And as many people know, the reason for all this bias and pettiness is because there used to be two papers in Manchester: the Evening Chronicle and the Evening News. They batted for City and United respectively, and when the Chron was subsumed into the Evening News in 1963 it carried on as before, and it's never changed in the ensuing 61 years.
The MUEN''s been on its arse for years. I don't even think they employ journos or snappers any more - just kids fresh from college. The sooner it folds altogether the better!
