I'm afraid OABAAB got that wrong. Two mutal friends of ours were sat right in front of my seat in the press box, so maybe he got his wires crossed. I was tempted to duck out - and to try to "blag" a ticket off City!! - but the chance of getting my name in the paper on the day the 35-year curse was lifted was just too good to turn down.

Might be worth pointing out Simon, that Tolmie defended you in this thread as he has done previously on the forum when you've written City related stories which have had the agenda merchants up in arms. Seems a bit odd that you feel the need to defend yourself over something as innocuous as free tickets.

Anyway, whilst your here, where did you get the 140k a week figure for Mario's wages from ?
£340,000/2 = £170,000

I really should start reading the red tops, if only to keep abreast of who they're holding up as the City over inflated wage of the week ...

I've been given single tickets by the club plenty of times - they sorted me out for the QPR game for example. But I wasn't happy with the suggestion I'd taken 11 tickets from the club's Cup Final allocation when many season-ticket holders couldn't get into Wembley. I've got a thick skin about most things because of the job I'm in, but I felt I had to put that one right. I don't know Tolmie, I don't know who or what he knows, but I spoke to a couple of people who do come on Bluemoon and they told me he has a lot of influence here.

I've seen the fuss about the £170k-a-week and I raised my eyebrows about it when I was told. But the figure came from a rock-solid source. That really is all I can say about it. I know it's a cliche and it's an easy get-out, but if any reporter revealed where they got information from they'd be finished.

If we gave a £170k/week contract to a lad just out of his teens that is fookin' obscene and I just hope the new men in charge approach contract negotiations with more sanity (confident they will).

Simon, why does the Mirror hate City so much?

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for why he thinks you received those tickets. As you well know in your business, being misinformed is par for the course. Sometimes even a rock solid source can be dead wrong ... ;)
