Mario Balotelli was not overrated. He is still one of the most promising players in europe. Unfortunately he wasnt in the environment condusive enough for him to shine- this is an alarming fact because i would have thought that England of all places will be where he could blend in.
I know you will all say im bunkers but if you are honest you will admit that the media, the refrees and some of the fans were on his back from day 1 and the tolerance level for him was lower than anybody else. He also was not in a club that will give him a consistent run of games required to find, maintain and improve on form.
Even now some people are criticizing him when he scores for milan beacuse they expected him to be on the bench at city most of time but still score 10 goals in the first half when he finally gets a game.
And dont give me that crap!! about him not trying because if you actually rely on your eyes and not pre-formed emotions and impressions, it is rather clear that marios workrate this season was good and was like many of the other player in the team. His scoring form was not good but that applied to the other strikers as well.
But since its mario, its because he is not trying.People use that arsenal game as a weapon against mario and rightly so but i will argue that most of the other, if not all the other red cards had been very harsh and based on pre concieved impressions of the player.
My weapon to prove the outrageousness of the negetive emotions towards mario is this seasons derby match. Mario was brilliant (although missed a sitter) and maybe our best player in the first half. The game however did not go well for us in the half. In the second half he made a backheel pass or something that didnt work out and everybody went crazy, the manager, the media, the pundits and unfortunately some of the fans and he was immediately substituted. Based on what youve read so far I will asuume that you can all view me as someone that can pretend myself to have EMPATHY!!!!, ...EMPATHY!!! for mario and i would say that his reaction after his substitution was inappropraite and disrespectful to the manager, yes, but also a reflection of how perplexed or fustrated he was after he deemed himself as trying his best and playing very well up to the point he was subsitituted. Mario was consequently the target of all the criticism and maligning by the press and in this forum after the game.
ONLY GARY NEVILLE!!! on MNF, actually addressed how wrong the attention mario was getting and actually and rightly pointed out that mario was one of our better players and perhaps should have stayed on the park with nasri yanked off!!.
Emotions, psychology, perceptions, honesty, prejudice. These are issues and factors that are relevent when making judgements about mario. But is very difficult for many people to self -reflect and realise what is actually happening.
I have been very dissappointed in how most people in this forum have GIVEN IN!! to the negetive emotions and impressions potrayed by the press and media rather than VISIBLY AND ACTIVELY supporting the player, who is actually a good guy, i mean he does not sleep with prostitutes, or get involved with club brawls or a racist. He was never arrested - these are the actions that warrants the strong contempt and hatred mario got. Even players that commited such actions got more support than mario ever did. Also people consiously turned a blind eye to his community works, his charities in italy and africa, his generousity, and the fact that the kids absolutely loved him .he was almost a kind of cult super hero for them, you can refer to the numerous man city videos and im sure some of you with young kids have even observed this.
So, Although people may think that mario failed us but it is actually the opposite -we failed mario.
Disagree all you want but this is the reality, England simply did not accept him.
Fantastic post, take a bow.
