The most traditional English food is ?

Add a good steak and kidney pudding to that list.
Good shout Andy. My mum still makes them, nothing fancy just diced skirt & beef kidney, chopped onions with a bit of oxo. She makes her own suet and steams them for 2-3 hours. I tried to out do her once claiming hers were a bit bland and smart arse here could do better. I was wrong. Mine were only ok compared to hers .Her steak n kidney puds with proper homemade chips and peppery buttered mashed carrots need to be eaten to be appreciated.

I'll remember that mate, must try them.. Last good S&K pud i had was in a pub of a small place called Port Logan nr Stranraer Scotland a few weeks back. I noticed on the specials board they were the homemade by the landlord from Derby. Bloody good traditional puds. Doubt If I'll get back there though.

Thomas's chop house sometimes has game pudding on as a special, that's well worth a try.

I used to eat Rabbit pie as a kid. Mum and dad were born just before 2nd world war when meat was scarce as well as being rationed. Wild rabbit was abundant and popular.then. Not too popular nowadays, probably since the film Watership Down. Always thought that rabbit was like chicken in taste and texture, but a bit stronger tasting.

Traditional food from yesteryear I enjoyed tbh.
