Ah, my friend got diagnosed with that about 5 years ago! She'll be asked to watch her diet and they'll analyse her a bit more going forwards, just to see if she improves or worsens. In my opinion, it would be a massive stretch to go for a biopsy in this situation. If things get worse in six months, definitely call for a biopsy, but no need to do a biopsy now when it's something that can be controlled by a few minor lifestyle changes.Hi everyone, thanks so much for all the replies.
She had her call this morning and has been told her results showed potentially fatty liver, and has been referred for a scan and maybe a biopsy. Not sure what to think of it.
(Btw, I've had a liver biopsy - I was being checked for glycogen storage disease, and my liver enzyme scores were also off the charts despite being 25 at the time and never drinking a drop of booze in my life. It's not an easy procedure but it's alright. It's a local anaesthetic procedure and I was able to go home the same day. They wheel you in, numb your side, do some scalpel work (which you can't feel at all), then they stick a tube in your side, you feel a sudden clamp internally, and then it's over. They have about 2/3 technicians talking you through it all. Then you have to lie very still on your back for an hour so the wound heals properly. Then you can get up and leave. Had a bit of pain in my ribs for a couple of days after but nothing that stopped me from going to work, etc.)
