The Nasri penalty claim

Great tackle and was from the side not from behind....put it this way that's at the other end and a penalty is given we would be screaming blue murder....Webb got it spot on

sandro was lucky to be on the pitch but this certainly wasnt why... a perfect tackle in.

If Vinnie Kompany made that tackle we would all be saying amazing defending. Yes, it is from behind but Sandro is in control the whole time, nasri is not in danger and he gets the ball. At the ground I was screaming for a pen but the replays proved me wrong i guess.

This type of challenge has to stay in the game, its ok to shut out two footed tackles and over-the-top of the ball challenges but lets not take tacking completely out of the game!

15 or 20 years ago that would have been a superb challenge from Sandro, perfectly timed, took the ball, excellent. However this isn't 15 or 20 years ago, it's 2013 and I'm sorry but the pundits who agreed it was a fine challenge are simply demonstrating that they aren't really up to date with modern football. Yes, he played the ball first, but he did so in full knowledge that he was going to slide straight through the back of Nasri and clean him out. The "tackle from behind" rule interpretation was introduced to prevent injuries caused from just such a challenge. It's a foul, wherever it occurs on the pitch.

It's also worth noting that, whilst Sandro did indeed play the ball, he didn't clear the ball away from the danger area, he simply poked it a couple of foot ahead of Nasri. If he hadn't then continued his clide and brought Nasri down then he would still have had the opportunity to reach the ball and have a shot. So the fact he took Nasri out with the follow through has actually prevented a goalscoring opportunity.

This.

I would prefer that tackles like this weren't penalized and defenders were allowed to defend. That being said if they are going to give penalties for these types of tackles 9x's out of 10(which they do) I'd prefer we weren't the 1 time out of 10.

In my opinion not a penalty.

But my opinion often differs to referees' interpretation.

The only way it would have been a 'penalty' was if Nasri was still in control of the ball and that would only have occurred if Sandro had only got a slight touch on the ball. With a slight touch Nasri would still have been in control of the ball and Sandro's trailing leg would have taken him out - thus giving the penalty away.
The Sandro lunge was thus correctly rated as a 'tackle' as Nasri was clearly no longer in control of the ball. It would have taken another two strides for Nasri to regain full control and the goal keeper would have been on him. So in my opinion spot on whistling...

That said Sandro committed 3 bookable offences after his yellow card so he SHOULD have walked - but Webb decided Spurs were suffering enough and didn't apply the rules.

Nasri would have had the ball had he not been clattered though, the ball went nowhere after the touch, and Nasri was felled, even a referee has posted on this thread that its a penalty. They could have had three sent off yesterday had Webb not played the sympathy card. Walker and Vertongen should have had second yellows, however I'm glad they finished with 11, it makes united's game there next week harder, and if they'd finished with 8, as they should, then it would have taken away the gloss from our performance.
