The Nasri penalty claim

If later in the season we're 1-0 down to a title rival and Kompany makes that exact same tackle when the other team are clean through most of us would scream great tackle and would be outraged if we conceded a penalty and he was sent off. I also think if we had drawn 1-1 yesterday then most of us would be claiming penalty and red card but because we won 6-0 it doesn't really matter. Football's all about opinions and it's hard to be objective when your team is involved. Personally I think no penalty but could see why it might have been given. I think you can interpret the rules to suit both arguments.

Definitely no penalty after seeing it again. Brilliant piece of defending.

Agreed - if we are looking at it 3 - 4 seasons ago and through the eyes of real football fans and players. But unfortunately if applying current rules and standards - should have been given.
In a way I'm glad it wasn't and I think Webb, for all his faults, was making a point by not giving it.

Apologies if this has been done before. I took a quick glance down the board and didn't see it

1st half at 1-0, Nasri is bursting through and about to shoot when I think it was Sandro who comes in from behind and takes the ball and man.

Webb plays on. If he gave it as a foul, then he'd have had to send Sandro off. MOTD also agreed and said it was a perfect tackle.

I agree that Sandro took the ball, but he also took Nasri out in doing so, and it was from behind. Surely if you take the ball, but I doing so go through the man and foul him it's a penalty?

Boyata did the same kind of challenge on Ribery in a friendy but cleaner and he got a yellow card, IN A FRIENDLY! So how this can be acceptable in a top 6 premier league clash is beyond me, it was over the top of the ball and should have been a penalty and a card for Sandro.

Clear penalty and sending off for me. The right foot tackle did not "win" the ball. It made contact with it that's all, but Nasri remained on his feet, in possession of the ball with a clear scoring chance. Sandro's left foot then followed through from behind and right through Samir to take him down. We are thus dealing with two tackles, not one, the second of which was a clear foul, reckless and out of control.

But Boyata didnt deserve the yellow - just because he got it doesnt make it justified

Was a great tackle but the laws of the game says its from behind and therefore a foul and penalty.
Anywhere else and its a yellow card and a free kick. Its a shame because it really was a good tackle and should not be a foul anywhere on the pitch

I myself don't think Boyata deserved a yellow for that wonderful tackle, but going by the current rules he did deserve a yellow as you are not allowed to tackle over the top of the ball and the yellow card shown to Boyata in a friendly proves how strictly they they take that rule yet Sandro for unknown reasons gets away with it in an important premier league fixture! I'm not saying Sandro did a bad tackle but going from the rules of the modern game it should have been a penalty as well as a yellow card if not red.

Watch the "Wes Brown"red card,Brown clearly made contact with the ball but, allegedly on the follow through of the tackle caught Charlie Adam. One ref says "Off" another "Play on".In the Nasri tackle ,how can the ref from a position behind the tackle say its a fair, when the momentum cleans Nasri out.Hope Sandros gets away with kicking the opposition (Scum) and once again getting away with it,as he did yesterday.

Great challenge, won the ball and momentum obviously carried him into Nasri.

I'd hate to think such good defending could be lost from the game through fear of unwarranted punishment - Webb wasn't great yesterday but he got that decision right.

Not under the current rules, he didn't. Or what seems the current rules, ie no tacking from behind.
FWIW I wouldn't give the penalty we need players to be able to tackle.
