Ok I'll bite.

Can understand those who choose not to sing it but booing it is bang out of order imo, in fact I ended up exchanging handbags with a daft twat who thought it ok to slag the Queen off at the top of his voice during the anthem, early 90's @ Wembley with Stockport.
If you feel so strongly why not just stay at the bar til it's done with, either way it's worth thinking twice about booing it, I mean I won't be there but but there may be some other upright citizen who will give you a clump for your troubles.

GStQ/K was a pub favourite that caught on during the jacobite uprising amongst the English, and not very relevant to the nation today. we just kept using it after that and it gained nathional anthem status.

It should be kept as a royal anthem and the 3 countries of the UK and NI state should have seperate anthems of their own.


I never stand up or sing the anthem as it means nothing to me, and doesn't represent the county I come from or other parts of the UK, but I don't boo it.

For england change it to Jerusalem, land of hope n glory or I vow to thee my country.
Scots have flower of scotland and wales Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. NI will want to keep GStQ probably but should really have a cross community anthem.

I happen to think, as monarchs go, her majesty is up there with the very best in history.

At the age she is and just recovering from illness, she travelled up to Manchester to meet the recovering victims of the cowardly attack at the MEN, whilst they were in hospital.

I mean, it’s a small gesture in the grand scheme of things but it’s incidence like this, that she doesn’t have to do, that make people like her.

To say she simply doesn’t care is a bit unfair. She certainly cares more than a lot of other rich people.

Harry and William are both decent too, I’m not particularly fond of Charles at all though.

It’s hardly an offensive song is it? I think the concept of god is ludicrous but whilst it’s our national anthem, I’ll sing it because I love the country.

There are better options out there but it’s hardly something to get worked up about.

Agreed. I am no fan of monarchies, but ours has developed, especially over the 16th Century and Age of Enlightenment, to be an institution that is largely ceremonial and one clearly demoted to second place behind Parliament.

I also agree that Elizabeth II has been a very good monarch. That day she came up to Manchester following the attack really endeared me towards her; that was her own personal choice to do that and she also showed a real interest towards the children. Compare that to May, and the difference was chalk and cheese. One of the best in history though, I'm to sure, I struggle to think she'd do well leading the gendarmes into battle at Crecy or Agincourt! ;)

That said, I can see why people do not like having God Save the Queen as anthem. I personally would prefer Jerusalem.

Once again Blues will be asked to stand up and sing the national anthem at Wembley on Sunday.
As an atheist and anti royalist, I reject the national anthem. How can i ask some force / being that I do not believe exists, to save someone whose authority I reject?

I was there in 81 (twice), 86, 99 and 2011 against the rags and boo'd then and shall boo again watching on the tele in a bar in Tampa bay!
