That was quite exciting and actually a bit emotional!

I class myself as a Catholic and a believer, even though I don't go to Church or 'practice' the Faith, really. I went to a Catholic Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form, basically from the age of 3 until 18 years old, being Catholic will always be part of who I am.

All the people mocking and criticising the Catholic Church, yes mistakes have been made and wrong doing has occurred but what about all the good things? In Britain the Catholic Church has provided fantastic education to millions of children over the years etc.


Anyway, Latin America is becoming the 'heartland' of the faith. 42% of the world's Catholics are in South America, so the Church had to stop being so Euro Centric.

Mistakes ? how dare you be so casual to the atrocities and missery the church has brought.

The crusades were not a wrong turn at the lights exactly were they.

Non of you even show contrition for being under the banner of this monsterous cult and what it has done.

Why ? because you see the sunday church village fait and such.
Why not go and see what it has done to your fellow catholics who listened to your pope regarding the use of condoms.
Indeed he spread the lie that the use of them increased the risk of std's.

The bad far outweighs the good and most of the good they do is based upon prosthelytizing, aka study our bible and pray to our god or no help.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to try and bully this poster. Why dont you just give it a rest and try and respect other people views.

I will not respect a cult who has stunted human evolution long enough in the name of power by numbers via sureptitious and devious way's.

Agreed. I'm not even Catholic, turned atheist ages ago, but they do a lot of good around this area. There is a shelter for the homeless downtown where they shelter and feed the homeless, who have virtually no advocates relative to other social problems. To me, the molestation thing is similar to terrorism in Islam, an aberrant criminality that doesn't reflect on the majority of what Muslims and Catholics contribute to the world.

Anyway, I hope Francis will be more open to reform than Benedict. If nothing else, a refocusing on issues that are relevant to the modern world, like the environment.

Well said TCIB. All these happy clapping, tambourine shaking, middle class, white folk who chip in their loose change every Sunday so their church can line it's own pockets and buy gold, gold and more gold to embellish the massive churches in which they sing their songs and seek absolution from sin.

They do nothing to help the aids epidemic sweeping Africa, nor help the starving millions who believe in this foolish notion of a god.

There has been a shift in the church population in recent times, and it has little to do with the 'white folk' that you cite.
Yes, a lot of older parishoners adhere to what they have done for years and I don't think they should be castigated for that. Many of them formed the backbone of this country in very troubled times and are now either dead or on their way out.
We now have missionaries from overseas who are trying to convert us.The irony is palpable.
