2 questions;
1. Why does every thread about religion that appears on here inevitably end up in bickering and squabbling?
2. Why do the mods allows such threads to develop into the whingefests that they invariably become?
1. Pretty much every thread ends up in bickering and squabbling at some point.
'Religion' threads are simply an ecumenical version of the 'Mancini In/Mancini Out' ones upstairs.
Now I don't really care to hear Billy and Dismal preaching to their half dozen disciples and re-enacting Groundhog Day every time I go on those threads,so experience has taught me to leave them to it,and let them go around in ever-decreasing circles if they want to.
Precisely the same applies here.
You know what you are getting into on a 'religion' thread,so if you don't like what you know you are about to see,then don't click on the thread.
There are literally hundreds of alternatives daily,some of which,like the 'I Found My Girlfriend Being Bukkake'd By The Entire Personnel Of An American Aircraft Carrier In Piccadilly Gardens - Could She Possibly Be Cheating On Me' relationship ones,bore me shitless.
So guess how I deal with them?
Yep - You get the picture?
Religion will always be a contentious issue,as folk tend to have strong beliefs either way,so disagreement goes with the territory.
Same as politics,or other highly debatable topics,like muffin/barm.
If you want a sterile talking shop full of acquiescent nodding Churchill dogs who shoot the breeze over 'What Is Your Favourite Flavour Of Crisps' type threads where the atmosphere resembles a Women's Institute tea party,then be my guest,but count me out.
2. The moderators job is not to dictate the content and/or direction of threads,it is merely to enforce the Code of Conduct.
Maybe you think you could a better job,however,in which case go for it and pm Ric a CV,as I believe a vacancy has arisen.
